Anyone rented from Dollar at MCO recently? Im curious as to how much they ran your credit card for at the time of rental. Do they just run it for the amount of hte rental or do they run it for a couple hundred of dollars. I know the website says the cost of the rental +15% or $250..whichever is greater. But I am curious for anyone who has recent experiences with them what they actually did.

Also..they are on site right..do they give you a car or do you get to pick from an isle?

Just got back from a 10 day rental with Dollar. They did a temporary authorization for $250 on my cc. The total rental was $181, so the "whichever is greater" held true for me. They are absolutely on site. And yes, you do get to pick your own car. The garage attendants will show you to the right section for you to pick.

This was my first rental with Dollar and I have to say I was very impressed. Last year, I rented from Alamo and had to wait in line for 30+ minutes. This year, I was thrilled to walk right past the Alamo desk (with the long lines again) to Dollar, went right up to the counter with no wait, got no high pressure for any junk extras and was immediately directed to the garage across the street to pick my car. I would definitely recommend Dollar.

Did you happen to see what models were offered for large size cars.

You could have used the kiosk and avoided the line with Alamo. Those extras are not junk and many people opt for them. With the kiosk or online checkin you avoid that. There is a reason why Alamo is busy and Dollar is not. Gee, wonder why.

:

Alamo is busy because they are cheaper. If you haven't figured it out yet folks on here will go with the lowest price!

(And lots of the extras are junke! :lmao:)

And there are instances where folks can't use the kiosks etc..

I tried to use the Alamo kiosk last time and it wouldn't let me. Several others had the same issue. Do you think it's possible that Alamo has such long lines because of kiosk/on line issues? I didn't say Alamo was junk. I'd rent from them again. This time Dollar was lower price so I went with them. After experiencing both, though, if price was the same, I'd definitely take Dollar over Alamo. Much, much, much easier dealing with the rep and getting a car.

Thanks, I already knew that (it was a question with an obvious answer) and they don't do the extra holds on credit/debit cards.
In your opinion they are junk, but, to others it saves them a lot of money if something happens, heaven forbid.
I know there are instances where folks cannot use the kiosks, but, that is very rare.

No, generally the line is long because the customers don't try to use the kiosk or online check in. Or, they don't realize they can use it. It is very rare that the kiosk refuses a reservation. Some of the reasons for the longer lines: They are less expensive for the most part. Many overseas airlines use them for their packages. Virgin air is one of the largest. Their policies are a lot easier to deal with.
If you are at the counter and they want to sell you additional "stuff" say NO, it is easy. Just keep saying it. I have listened to other companies with customers and they are just as bad, if not worse. The worst experience in my car rental history was with Hertz and they now own Dollar/Thrifty and I would not rent from them if it were free.
No, you did not say that Alamo was junk, I responded to this. "got no high pressure for any junk extras ".
