Dollar: my experience

Hi all,

I had a Disney trip 7/28-8/11 and wanted to post the one fiasco I had with Dollar. I had made an online reservation with them 4 weeks earlier using a mousesavers code for a 2 week full size rental. I walked up to the counter and was asked to see my verification as the attendant could not find me in the system. I whipped out my copy and after a phone call to higher ups, it was deemed that the reservation had been cancelled by ME! :confused3 I don't know if that was their excuse or what, but I was told they do not send e-mail verifications for cancellations. They had no rental cars available and offered no solutions to the problem. Make sure you have an active reservation before you leave!

On a brighter note, Magical Express allowed us to board and we rented at Alamo on site later in the week! :goodvibes My inconvience saved me about 350.00:rotfl: Disney took a frazzled, panicked mom with 4 kids in tow and made me feel like a queen! :wizard:

I don't know what is going on with rental car companies, but it's terrible. In thinking about it, even if you check your reservation before you leave for the airport it won't guarantee anything. The company could cancel the reservation 5 minutes before you arrive to pick up the car. I'm glad things worked out for you!

Well the counter help at Dollar doesn't know what they are talking about, I cancelled a reservation with Dollar and got an email verification of the cancellation. So they were trying to cover themselves for cancelling your reservation.

In an effort to figure out what happened, I thought of three possibilities.

1. They were overbooked and cancelled the lower fare rental contracts.

2. Previously, my credit card number had been compromised and I had to be reissued a new one. Dollar ran the old number and automatically cancelled my reservation, with no email notification.

3. I had somehow cancelled my reservation and did not get an email notification. Thanks for letting me know that the 3rd scenario was not a possibility!

You know, if they had told me that #2 was the reason, I would have understood, although they really should notify the email address. It worked out for me in the end because I was staying on property with Disney and used Magical Express. I would not have been a happy camper if I had to use a taxi for a hotel off property and then had no transportation to the parks!

Oh my...now I'm a little nervous about our reservation. I used a discount code also. I hope they do not do this to us when we go in November.

It's very unfortunate what happened to the OP - can't imagine the panic she must have felt! Since Dollar and Thrifty are same company, they could've offered to work something out w/ them, but I guess since they had blamed the victim, they didn't really care at that point. We used Dollar in Nov. w/dicount from Mousesavers, and had no problem, but did pick up at Regal Sun resort, as we took ME, and stayed on-site for 2 nts. before moving to Timeshare. I would suggest trying to rent off-airport to anyone staying on-site who can get ME to resorts. It usually saves you money w/no airport fees, and if you don't have it have it that 1st day, might save you a day or 2 of rental fees.
