We got a great rate for Xmas using FLTVL. My question is, has anyone had any sucess combining a code and a coupon?

Thanks so much!
Elena

Go to rentalcars.com - and see if they have any coupons.. If not, do a search on this board (or the transportation board) to see if anyone listed any..

Then go to the Dollar site and give it a try! Nothing to lose - everything to gain - right?;)

Usually Dollar will not allow you to combine codes and coupons.

Thanks! I knew I read about someone combining codes, coupons etc but couldn't remember if it was Dollar or National...or another company.

Thanks!

what's fltvl..going in Dec(1st week) and desperate for a good deal! Thanks

it's a code on dollar.com. I got it from mousesavers.com. Not sure of the specifics, but without a code it is $633 for 8 days full size and $305 for 8ndays with the code.

National allows you to mix and match codes and coupons and it seems Alamo does also (not sure what would happen with a mix and match with Alamo when you got there, however).

re Alamo: Wouldn't they have to honor it regardless if she had a confirmation in hand?

It's amazing to see how all the different car rental rates can literally change from day to day.. Makes one feel like they have to sit at the computer every day - ALL day - just punching in codes!! LOL

Ann,
I have no idea if they have to honor it or not. I just know that the Alamo site accepts different codes and different coupons.
In speaking with an agent, she said they would probably not honor it, so, I just left it alone and will let someone with more of a sense of adventure try it. :)

In May I rented a car from Dollar out of LAX. They allowed me to use both a AAA discount and a coupon from the Entertainment Book. I am not sure if either of those clasify as a "code" or if they are considered a coupon and discount.

I have not yet secured our rental car for our Sept WDW trip (still hoping the rates drop a bit after Labor Day) however when I called for price quotes at both Dollar and National I was told both my AAA discount and Entertainment Book coupon would be honored.

Ooooooo.. That is NOT good! (And probably not legal either - if you have a confirmation in your hand..)

However, going down there alone with my grown DD and my granddaughter, I think I'll play it safe and either stick with National - or get reservations at both..

Now if my SON-IN-LAW were going, he would stand there and "duke it out" with them until the "powers that be" finally gave in.. LOL

C Ann--Most of the coupons tell you what rate code you have to use. National is (currently) not enforcing it. They are aware of the fact that the system is allowing for illegal discount combinations. One of the agencies actually says that improper use of the coupon will void the rates.

I'm not sure I fully understand the above, but if National is "not enforcing it" and they are "aware of the fact", then how can they legally cry foul if they send you a confirmation??

Can ya'll please help me understand the difference in a code and coupon? I have only rented a car twice in my life and both times (from Dollar) I was able to use my Entertainment Card and AAA Card plus got Delta Sky Miles for the rental.

Is the Entertainment coupon considered a "code" and the AAA card just a plain discount?

Sorry for such stupidity I am just trying to understand the most cost effective way to rent a car for our upcoming trip. I always see ya'll talking about the codes at Mousesavers.com but was unsure how to use them properly?

Both times that I have rented I had to show my AAA and Entertainment card at check-in. Do you just print the info from mousesavers.com

Confused!

A code says it is a code, a coupon usually is either for a free upgrade, free day or a certain amount off the price of the car.

Not sure why I would print the information out from Mousesavers, have no clue why you would.

The only agency I know of that accepts one code and a coupon from somewhere else is National.

The most effective way is to try every coupon, rate code etc. available. It can take hours, but, often it is worth it.

That information is incorrect (RE: multiple code/coupon) as I have done it twice with Dollar, both times booking directly with their 800 number listed on the website. I specifically asked the rep I spoke with if I would be allowed to use both discounts (Ent. coupon and AAA) and was told yes as they are separate discount categories. From that I gather I would not be allowed to use 2 different Ent. coupons as they would fall under the same category.

Often discount codes are not meant for massive general consumption, they are a marketing tool and sent to loyal customers. The Internet has "leaked" these codes to the general public. So, while you may not have a clue as to why you or I would print out a mousesavers.com code to prensent at check-in, proof is now often required due to codes being spread that are not meant for the general public. My question didnt seem all that unreasonable.

I frequent many message boards that scope out Internet deals... more times than not that "great" deal that is posted for a dot.com store (using a code at check-out) was NOT meant for anybody, it was meant for a sole user. I have seen it happen with Cold Water Creek, The Disney Store, Macy's.....
