Dollar car rental, prepaid cards?

Just checking my documents and I wondered if anyone has recently used a pre paid card for the security hold?

I don't have a credit card.

I only have a debit card and prepaid credit cards so whichever one I use I'll lose access to the funds for the whole trip.

Their t&cs seem geared to us renters.

It says they don't accept prepaid credit cards but if it's a MasterCard and works like a credit card how would they know?

It also says they do a credit check but as far as I'm aware they can't do that with uk people, they either won't have access to our system or it'll say 'none' since I have no us credit history lol

Anyone recently used a prepaid card when picking up their car?

Their system will know it's a prepaid card.

I've tried it with them before, but they just won't accept. With my credit card I've had varying amounts held, from $1 to $500. They are very hit and miss.

You are right the credit check doesn't apply to UK customers.

Your only real option is to get a credit card

I can't get a credit card even if I wanted one.

They so say they accept debit cards but I will only have a small amount in there so without knowing how much they will hold it'll be a risk whether there'll be enough in there.

I paid with my fairfx card last time and they held a certain amount.

I've called them to ask how much a hold is in the past, and they tell me that it's half of your booking amount.

Is that dollar? The official Facebook page/person said it would be $250 but I'm not sure I completely trust what an advisor says on Facebook lol

The rental and insurance totalled £262. I'm not sure what the rental alone would have been?

Like you said, their service is very US centric, and they don't know alot about pre paid vouchers either!

I think I'll try to use an empty debit card and see what happens! Lol
