Can anyone help me please.

We do not have a Credit Card and when we booked our holiday got TA to check with Airours reference deposit for car. We have taken Platinum Insurance which covers everything and brochure says you will eb asked for CC imprint if you do not take LDW. We have taken this so does this mean we will not be asked for Credit Card? I ahve been given so amny differnet answers and do not know now if we should just cancel the car.

Has anyone traveled recently and hired car from Dollar with Platinum Insurance? Where you asked for Credit Card? Has anyone paid cash deposit instead and if so how much?

Some posters on another forum said they were not asked others said they were. We phoned Dollar and they said "at the minute you do not need to leave a deposit with Platimum Insurance" but even the guy there seemed unsure.

On our last two trips with Virgin and a rental car from Dollar with Platinum Insurance, I've had to use a CC to leave an imprint. No money was taken and as far as I'm aware, it's just used as a security measure. The same thing happens when I've stayed at hotels when on business. Even though my company has booked me the room and agreed to pick up the bill, I'm always asked for my CC to be swiped.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't consider travelling on holiday without a CC. It's there as a backup and for emergencies as well as smoothing the path with rental car companies.

The US is a very credit card friendly place to go.....

Is there any reason why you haven't got a credit card?

It might be worth getting one just for situations like this, and emergencies as the last poster says. After all, if you dont want to, you dont have to use it to buy things...

We used to have Credit Cards and to be honest would not have one again. We have a PrePaid Credit Card but not sure if this would be accepted so easier to say we do not have one.

The last two times we've been - once with Virgin and once with first choice we have had a Dollar rental car - with Virgin at Orlando Intl. and with First Choice at Sanford airport. Both times we have had inclusive insurance and have never been asked for a credit card when picking up the car.

Thanks Tony

I have printed off terms and conditions of the cr hire from Airtours site and it states that :

Do you have to have car insurance?

If you don't book insurance, a credit card deposit will be required.

and on another part

- Optional LDW - Loss Damage Waiver ($19.99 per car per day). This covers all rental vehicle damage, regardless of fault. NB: without LDW cover, Dollar will require you to produce a credit card with at least $1,500 available credit. Airtours strongly recommends pre-purchasing one of its insurance packages or taking this

We have taken the Platinum so I think we will be ok and if Dollar do ask for a credit Card nothing I can do , we do not have one. Will take spare money though just in case they ask for a deposit. Only problem is no-one can tell me how much this is likely to be :confused3

should have just not bothered with car, but with 3a+3c seemed the best plan.

thanks

Hi

We booked via Alamo and paid for Platnium insurance and we were asked for our CC. We picked ours up from Car Care Centre. When we picked up our car from Dollar at SFB we were also asked for our CC. I would phone the office where you are picking up the car in the USA and ask them would you need a CC and if not how much is the deposit. Also if you are staying in a hotel they may ask for your CC, but you can decide not to if you are not bothered about having your phone switched on etc..

Phone Dollar office in SFB if thats where your picking up your car they deal with these queries everyday and take a name who you spoke to.

Panic over, I recieved an email from Dollar in UK who contacted Dollar in Orlando and it says the following :

Please note that we generally advise customers travelling to the United States to have a major credit card in their possession. However, our location at Orlando International Airport has advised us that for picking up a Dollar vehicle from this station you do not need to present a credit card as security for the vehicle. However, they will ask you to present a valid UK passport, full and valid UK driving license (both parts in case you are holding a new photocard-style license), your prepaid car rental voucher, and your return tickets at the time of pick up.

In case you run into any problems at your pick-up location regarding the credit-card issue, please ask to speak to a supervisor or the station manager directly

I just rang them and they have said that Orlando Internatial and Sanford both operate the same policy so I have asked for confirmation of this in writing and I wil take this with me.

Update: Email arrived, that was quick only asked to confirm it applied to Sanford a few minutes ago, wish I had emailed them first.

Thanks everyone but I feel that now I have it in writing that it will be ok, just gonna print email off and put it somewhere safe incase I lose it.

Many thanks

Hi

Great news. I am pleased you managed to sort it out. Definately take the confirmation with you. You never know you may get someone who does not know the rules when you collect the car.

Good luck and have a great trip.

Thanks Angel

I will definately be taking the email with me, my hubby says I worry over nothing but I did not want to get to the airport and have to satrt arguing with someone over this in front of kids.

Hopefully the info will also help others. MyTravel were hopeless and kept giving different info and I even had an email from Dollar in US saying basically "no card no car"

But all sorted :Pinkbounc
