OK all. I am a frequent traveler to WDW (usually once a year), totaling about 20-25 trips. I thought I had eaten every bit of food at WDW. My favorite dessert is the Peanut butter and jelly shake at the 50's prime time cafe. But I am ashamed to admit that I have never tried a Dole Whip or a Zebra Dome. Since I have been on this site (about 4 months), everyone raves about these 2 desserts. I am going back to WDW the second week in December (right after Pop Warner). Can someone please tell me;
a) what are these two desserts?
b) where can I get them?
Do I have to visit a specific resort or are they available at the parks?
Just looking for a way to expand my eating experience at WDW.
Thanks!!!!!

Dole Whips are available at Aloha Isle in Adventureland (near the Jungle Cruise). I recommend the Dole Whip float specifically. It rocks! I haven't had a zebra dome, but I think they come from Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I have never heard of the Zebra Dome, but wish I had! We were at BOMA for brunch and I would've got one, had I known. I did hear about Dole Whips on here and I tried on this past week and it was so good! I actually got the Pineapple float - it was on the dining plan as a snack! Like PP said, you can get one at ALoha Isle.

This one is a vanilla/pineapple swirl version. You can get them in pineapple, vanilla, chocolate and swirl- but I think the pineapple version is what most talk about. They also have the pineapple dole whip float as labdogs said.

It is available at Aloha Isle- it's to the right as you cross the Adventureland bridge into Adventureland (and before the Swiss Family Treehouse).

The Zebra Dome:

It's the two round things on the left.

They are found at Boma in AKL and I've heard them described as like coffee-flavored mousse but my mom and I didn't find this at all. She hates coffee-flavored items and loved the zebra dome. It's a mousse consistency though. They are pretty good but not what I thought they'd be after reading about them on these boards.

Zebra domes can also be found at Mara at AKL sometimes, but not always. However, Boma is such a great place to eat that I'd recommend you try them there. To me they're okay, but not great. However, much of the food at the dinner buffet at Boma is fantastic!

Citrus Swirls are better :)

There is also A Strawberry Swirl at The Enchanted Grove in FantasyLand. I plan on trying one this week! 1 1/2 more sleeping times until our trip!

Holy Cow!!! those pictures are awesome. Now I want one. can't wait to December!!!! Thanks for the pics.

These are the things I dream of at night!!!

My mom also does not like coffee but loves Zebra Domes. She wanted me to figure out a way to ship them to her from Disney a couple of weeks ago.

Every time someone mentions Zebra Domes, I think of b00bs.
Bad, right?

Why worry about shipping them? Just make them!

(P/S - count me in the HATE coffee but love Zebra Domes group)

ZEBRA COFFEE DOME
Boma – Flavors of Africa
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

1 pound Milk Chocolate
4 cups Heavy Cream
5 each Egg Yolks
¼ cup + 1 tablespoon Sugar
6 sheets Gelatin
½ cup Kahlua Liqueur
¼ cup Espresso Coffee
Yellow Cake
¾ cup White Chocolate Ganache
¼ cup Dark Chocolate Ganache

Method of Preparation

1. Melt milk chocolate in a medium size bowl over a hot water bath.
2. Whip heavy cream to soft peaks.
3. Whisk yolks with sugar in a small bowl.
4. Soften gelatin leaves in cold water, and remove the excess water.
5. Mix gelatin with Kahlua and coffee. Set bowl over hot water bath to dissolve the gelatin.
6. Fold 1/3 of whipped cream into the chocolate.
7. Add the yolks, then the gelatin mixture.
8. Fold in the rest of the cream.
9. Pour mousse in flexipan domes almost to the top.
10. Place sponge circle (1/4” thick yellow cake cut in a circle) on top. Leave in the freezer to set.
11. Once hard, unmold and place in glazing racks.
12. Make white chocolate ganache and chocolate ganache.
13. To make the chocolate ganache, heat 1 cup of heavy cream in a stainless steel pot. Once hot, pour over chopped 10 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate in a bowl. Add 1½ ounces of butter until well combined. Set aside at room temperature.
14. To make white chocolate ganache, heat 1 quart of heavy cream in a stainless steel pot. Once hot, pour over chopped 2 pounds 8 ounces white chocolate. Stir until well combined. Set aside at room temperature.
15. Put chocolate ganache in a pastry bag. Ladle white chocolate ganache to cover each dome. Simultaneously, pipe a stripe design of chocolate ganache over the dome.
16. Refrigerate to allow the glaze to set.

Note: Six sheets of gelatin is equal to 1 ½ packets (each packet has ¼ ounce) of
unflavored powdered gelatin dissolved in ¼ cup of water.

Yes, at the risk of being a DIS blasphemer, I think Dole Whips are overrated. Definitely pretty good, but not what I expected from the hype.

Now...the Dole Whip FLOAT is another story. THAT lived up to the hype!

What and where are these???? I LIKE Dole Whips, but wouldn't go as far to say I love them, just not a big pineapple fan. Maybe a citrus swirl or strawberry swirl will make my day.

It's a swirl of Strawberry sorbet (or sherbet?) with vanilla ice cream at the Enchanted Grove in MK- it's localed across from the tea cups- on the pathway from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland on your right.

What are Dole Whips and Zebra Domes??????

HEAVEN!!!!!!

to answer the question in a smiple way- darn good!

Anyone try to make the Zebra domes at home? How did they turn out?

What is a Dole Whip? Basically, it's a little piece of heaven in a Mickey Mouse cup.

And to the poster who has the picture of the Dole Whip ... THAT is my favorite sight in all of Disney World! The pineapple floats are good and all, but the juice is just too sweet after a while, which is why I always prefer just getting the soft serve ice cream.

A Dole Whip is:

Sugar, Dextrose, Pineapple Crystals, Partially hydrogenated soybean oil, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Locust Bean, Guar, Xanthan, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Sodium Silico Aluminate, Vegetable Fiber, Citric Acid, Artificial Flavor, Sodium Caseinate (a non-lactose milk derivative and the only milk-related product in a Dole Whip), Mono & Diglycerides, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Dipotassium Phosphate, Artificial Color Including F.D. & C. Yellow #6.

I don't care how good it tastes. The ingredient list is enough to turn my stomach. You can get this list, incidentally, by asking for it at the counter.

Interesting...

I think part of the attraction of Dole whips is jus that you don't see pineapple ice cream (esp paired with the juice) very often. So they are kind of unique to WDW.

AS for Zebradomes, yeah they are rather edible, but not really any better then many other similar desserts 've had other places. Personally, I prefer the no sugar choclate mousse at the Kringra La Bakery- or the creme brulee at the French pastry shop. ThoughI do enjoy eating at Boma.

Now I know why I love them so much! :lmao:
