Has any one used the lock and low rate that dolar offers you and got a minivan? Did they give you an option? This happened to us one time, we did not need the minivan but this time we do. Should I chance it or pay for the high cost for a garented minivan? Even thought about two rentals and then if we get offered the minivan canceling the other one. Any thoughts?

I use Dollar at least twice a month for business travel. Getting a minivan is EXTREMELY rare. Its all based on inventory. In high family rental areas (San Diego, Orlando) its almost unheard off. In fact I usually have gotten the questionable "midsize" car rather than a bigger vehicle. I did get a Mitsubishi SUV last week. If you try the two reservation thing use two separate names

Minivan rentals went through the roof the last few days. I have a 9 day minivan rental in July at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista for $337 total. Its now $512 with the City Special.

RULE 1 of car rentals, NEVER reserve a car smaller than you need!

Why you ask, well that is because if you get what you reserved, you have ZERO recourse except to see if you can upgrade, which may or may not be available. There have been more then a few posts about people reserving Emerald Aisle vehicles and getting a midsize when they needed a minivan, there are also a quite a few posts about people seeing arguements between family members because they cannot fit all their stuff into the vehicle class they reserved.

Another point, don't be "that guy" reserving more then one rental with the intent to cancel one on arrival!

Wow, even car rates just went up. I just went to look after I read your post. I booked a car at Wyndham for August just a few days ago for $135 and now it's $200 with City Special. Crazy! Glad I booked when I did.

I found this site www.carrentalsavers.com from a fellow poster on this site. We are traveling with 4 adults and 2 kids. I went to the site and found a coupon code thru Budget for a 7 seater SUV( Elite SUV/Ford Explorer) for a week for $199 plus tax which equaled $260. We are flying into Sanford but the same code "BCD U030154 " can be used at MCO as well. There are tons of other coupons to look at this was just the best for us. Best of luck :)
