Doing WDW with an ostomy bag

I must have missed that when I searched! Thank you!

Anyone else who has advice, please share!

No problem. I just happened to remember posting on it and searched "ostomy".

i don’t have any personal experience, but want to let you know that there are Companion Restrooms in all the parks and at Downtown Disney. These are individual rooms with a sink, toilet and a locking door. Some of the Companion Restrooms also include a baby changing table which you could use as a surface for supplies if you need.
There is more information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board or you can follow the link in my signature to get there.

AK is the newest park and most of the restrooms at AK include a handicapped stall that includes a sink in the same stall with the toilet. That’s kind of hit and miss in other places since restrooms were not built that way originally and it was added as bathrooms were remodeled or updated.

Thanks for the link, LockShockBarrel. I added a link to that thread in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

My mum has both a urostomy and a colostomy and I dont think it has ever been a huge deal. I know she makes sure to take extra supplies so tends to go to the furthest bag check and explains first and they have always been cool with her.

Thanks!

Normally we drive to WDW, and of course our first time flying is also my first time going with an ostomy bag. So that was one of my concerns as well.

If you go to the TSA web site, there is a card you can print and present to the screener if you are selected for pat down. It explains that you have special needs and require a private screening. The TSA had at least one very ugly incident with a passenger with a urostomy that has resulted in an initiative to be more responsive to those with special needs during the screening process. I am a member of the same bladder cancer support group as Tom Sawyer who was the individual humiliated during screening very early in the process. He is part of a group going to DC to meet with the TSA on the 25th of January to discuss possible ways of better training screeners.

It may not be an issue if you are not selected for the "special screening". Other than that, just take lots of supplies and keep them with you in your carry on luggage! Remember the companion restrooms if you have to cath/change bags. You can also go to first aid where the restrooms tend to be a bit cleaner.

Have a great trip!
