Doing WDW on my own again, a February 2012 PTR

Hi everyone! So, Heather and Jimmy's wedding was yesterday and it went incredibly well :goodvibes Everyone was commenting to me and my family about how great it was, how great the hall was, the food was, the cake was, how great Heather did, etc. We obviously did not get the professional pictures back yet (that will be about 3 weeks) but our Mom brought her camera so I have some pictures from that. So, here they are!

The day started with Myself, Heather, our sister Lisa and one of the other bridesmaids, Samantha, going to get our hair done at 8am. Here is a shot of my hair, which is what all of the bridesmaids had theirs done like.

A.jpg

After our hair Samantha went to her parents house (she had come up Wednesday from Georgia, where she and her husband live), and the rest of us went to our parents house. Once we ate something it was time to start getting ready. Our cousin Rachel came at 11am and did Heather's makeup for her (she does it as a side job) while Lisa and I got dressed. The photographer, Katrina, showed up right after Rachel and started working. We got lucky, as the photographer is the cousin of the best man, so we found one easily, she gave us a family discount, and she is fantastic! :cheer2:

Once Rachel was done the other bridesmaids got to my parents house and we all did our makeup and helped Heather get in her gown. The limo showed up at that point too. Once we were all dressed and had our makeup and jewelry done we went out for pictures.

You'll notice on almost all of the staged pictures that we are not looking in that direction, because we were looking at Katrina and her assistant who were taking the professional pictures. They still turned out well, I think!

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011010.jpg

From left to right that is Samantha, our cousin Christine, Me, Heather, Lisa, our cousin Tracy (whose husband Steve is the Best Man) and Kimberly the Flower Girl, who is also Tracy and Steve's daughter.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011016.jpg

This is our father, Heather and our Mother. You can't tell from these pictures, but Mom started crying during our hair appointment and didn't stop for the next 10 hours when the reception ended. It didn't surprise any of us, as she is very emotional and cries often. She had tissues with her at all times.

Once we got done with the pictures the bridal party all got in the limo and we headed to the Banquet Hall, which is only about 10 minutes away. Katrina left right ahead of us so she could get pictures of us arriving. Kimberly, the flower girl, had the best time in the limo. She just turned 5 and had never been in a limo before. She was fascinated by everything. Oh, we got the limo cheap too, as Steve's father knows the owners of the Limo company and got us a deal. :woohoo: We arrived to find that the guests were arriving as well. Once the guests went in we got Heather out and went into the bridal suite to wait. We only had to wait about 15 minutes and it started.

We were very lucky with the wedding. The sole reason Heather and Jimmy chose that location was they do outdoor weddings in a gazebo overlooking the water. At the rehearsal Friday we found out that there was a 70% chance of thunderstorms at the time of the wedding and so we planned to have to have it indoors. When we woke up Saturday morning we found that it was changed to no rain until hours after the wedding and was supposed to be partly sunny. :dance3:

So, we did the whole wedding march and all of us got into the gazebo.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011019.jpg

Left to right, that's Pastor Dave (who is the brother-in-law of my aunt and a friend of Mom's since they were teenagers), Jimmy, Steve, Will (Heather and Jimmy's roommate), Jimmy's friend Frankie, Jimmy's friend Walter, and my cousin Tommy (whose sister is a bridesmaid, Christine).

No picture of Samantha and Tommy, they didn't turn out. Oh, and the Ring Bearer is Will, who is the son of Will the groomsman. I will call him Little Will in the future of this to not mix him up with his father. You can see in the background of the some of the pictures that he is being walked around by his mother. He is only 3 and does not focus well so he needed to be distracted at times to keep him from throwing a fit or misbehaving. You will hear later that it didn't always work.

Continued in next post.

The wedding party went inside while the guests got to their seats, then we went out for pictures. Again, we are looking at the photographer so the angle is off, but still good.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011076.jpg

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011081.jpg

While we were taking this picture Little Will started getting worked up and decided he was done. As we finished the last picture we saw him start running and his mom, Jess, started chasing him. Then he changed directions and started running toward the water. The whole group of guys, plus some guests who were watching the picture taking, took off after them, taking off their jackets and such as they ran. Thankfully he tripped at the bottom of the steps and Jess was able to get him right before he jumped in the river. We calmed Jess down, as she was convinced she and Little Will had just ruined everything and everyone would hate her. We all convinced her that no one hated them and everything was okay, and then continued the pictures.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011093.jpg

That is Jimmy's father Jim and his stepmother Tina beside him. They actually called him on Thursday and told him they couldn't come to the wedding. They live in FL and had been hit by major bills and couldn't afford the airfare. Jimmy was crushed. Apparently very late Friday night someone stepped in and paid for their airfare (though they had to fly back down right after the reception) and they surprised everyone by showing up. Jimmy was so happy, as was Heather! Without getting too much in Jimmy's business, he had a bad childhood. His mother dumped him on his father's doorstep (with his sister) as a kid and disappeared. He has not heard from her since. It really affected him, despite being treated well by his father and Tina. I think they, along with my parents and Heather, have helped him a lot though in restoring his faith in love, and people in general.

After the pictures they announced us as we came into the hall. We did the Best Man and Maid of Honor speeches right away.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011117.jpg

And then we got to eat! The food was really delicious. The guests had Hors D'Oeuvres of cheeses, crackers, fresh fruit, vegetables and dips while we took our pictures. The meals were either seasoned chicken breast or roast beef with boiled potatoes and green beans. Everything was done perfectly and seasoned well.

Heather and Jimmy did their first dance to Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing".

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011137.jpg

Then the bridal party dance.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011149.jpg

You can see to the right, in the front, is Lisa and Will. Lisa is 5'6", Will is 6'4". Even in 2 inch heels she was so short compared to him. Then Heather and Dad did their dance, and Jimmy and Tina had theirs.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011166.jpg

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011171.jpg

Once the formalities were done we all starting walking around saying hi to everyone and getting pictures.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011181.jpg

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011179.jpg

That's a great picture of Tracy, Steve and Kimberly. :goodvibes

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011205.jpg

Those are two of Heather's friends that she has known since she was 2. Jennifer (on the left) lives next door to our parents, and Jessica was our Mom's first ever daycare client when she was 18 months old.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011206.jpg

Then came the apron dance. It took longer than expected, as everyone participated! They got about twice the amount than they expected, which is being put toward activities on their honeymoon.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011203.jpg

Heather is dancing with our Uncle Tom here (father of Christine and Tommy), who also recorded the whole wedding on video for us. This was during the apron dance, as you can see me in the background with the apron on.

We did some more dancing and then it was cake time.

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011204.jpg

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011210.jpg

HeatherJimmysWedding9-24-2011211.jpg

After that we did the bouquet and garter tosses. The flower girl Kimberly and ring bearer Little Will caught them, so we left it at that and didn't do the normal tradition. :rolleyes1 After the trying to jump in the water incident, Little Will was very well behaved the whole reception. He and all the younger kids played together and kept each other occupied.

We had a few more songs after that, and then it was over. The guests started leaving, we packed up all the gifts in my parents RV (since Heather and Jimmy were leaving too soon for their honeymoon to have time to open and store them.

After the wedding we actually had a little get together at my aunt's house for another aunt's 60th birthday. We all went home to change and headed over there. It only lasted about 30-45 minutes, as the birthday girl lives over 90 minutes away and it was already 8pm, and had been a long day!

My parents actually left for a vacation to WDW at 1am this morning, and I took Heather and Jimmy to the airport for their honeymoon at 9am this morning. They are staying overnight in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, then getting on a cruise to the Bahamas tomorrow afternoon.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend. I'm looking forward to sleeping tonight, as I didn't get much last night and need some so I'm not a zombie at work tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Wow, what a wonderful update! I so enjoyed reading all about the wedding, and hearing that everything went so well. It was just beautiful! Everyone looked great, and most behaved great! (But the little ring-bearer added a little spice!) ;) After everything your sister went through with the accident, it is so inspiring to see her finding her happiness with Jimmy. How nice that his parents got to come after all - I know that meant the world to him and to them. Your whole family looked great - you and your sisters were beautiful, your dad was handsome, and your mom is so pretty. She looked more like a sister than the mom! :) I loved the picture of the four "girls" together - how lovely is that!! :goodvibes And the little flower girl was just precious!

I imagine you will all need a few days to recuperate from all that! Thanks for posting the pictures so quickly. I wish for Heather and Jimmy a wonderful honeymoon and a long very happy life together! :cloud9:

Oh my word! The wedding pictures are gorgeous! Girl, look at you all dolled up and looking glamalicious. :thumbsup2

I'm so happy that the weather cooperated so that they could have the wedding in the gazebo since that's why they chose the venue in the first place.

WOW! Great wedding photos!!! Everyone looked great & that cake looked amazing!

Thanks! I did need a few days to recouperate, hence taking a few days to reply. :lmao: We all knew it would be a great day no matter what happened, but it turned out better than we hoped. And Little Will certainly added a little spice, but it's a funny story now.

We were THRILLED when we got up in the morning and heard the weather was going to be nice! As you said, that's why they chose that venue, and so, besides the ring bearer trying to jump in the water, they loved having it overlooking the water. And :thanks: for the compliment.

WOW! Great wedding photos!!! Everyone looked great & that cake looked amazing!

Thanks! I don't remember if I put the story about the cake on here or not, and am too lazy to check, so here it is, maybe for the second time.

Heather and Jimmy checked out a bunch of places for wedding cakes, did lots of testings, and chose a bakery in a local grocery store. Picked out the flavors, it was paid for, everything. Then three months ago the grocery store decided they no longer were going to do wedding cakes and told the head baker to call everyone who had one scheduled and tell them they needed to find someone else. Rather than do that, she quit. She found a new job a the head desert chef at a new restaurant that just opened 2 days ago (after the wedding!) and told her new bosses the story. They were horrified that the grocery store had done that, and told her that she could use their kitchen, for free, before they even opened, to make all the scheduled wedding cakes so she didn't have to cancel. She called my Mom, told her all of this, and made the cake for them in the kitchen of a restaurant that wasn't even finished yet. And did that great of a job. And the cake was delicious! They had three different flavors: chocolate, red velvet and vanilla. The hall said it was the fastest they have seen a wedding cake go in the 40 years they have been doing this.

I will back later today with an update on my upcoming road-trip vacation to Utah. Nothing new for WDW right now, but I will probably have one my the end of the week.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

OK, so tomorrow turned into 3 days. I leave 10 days from now (:scared1:) for my road trip to Kanab, Utah. I am driving out there alone, but meeting a bunch of friends out there that I have met over the years through Best Friends Animal Society. BFAS is in Kanab, Utah, and they are the largest animal rescue sanctuary in the USA. Their property is over 3,300 acres, and they lease the 30,000 acres around them from the BLM as a buffer zone for wildlife and their animals. They have around 2,000 homeless animals in their care at any time, and adopt out a lot and bring new animals in. They take in all kinds of animals. Besides the normal dogs and cats, they have horses, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, ducks, pigeons, all types of birds, and even more species. They also have a department that just handles wildlife that is injured and needs to rehabbed and released. Visitors can take tours and/or volunteer in any of the animal departments. They are an incredible organization, and I urge you all to check out their website. :goodvibes

My plans have changed a bit over the past few weeks. I am leaving the morning (early!) of Sunday, October 16th and driving all day the 16th, the 17th and the 18th until I get to Kanab. I was going to rent a private cabin for the entire stay, but I was contacted off a waiting list to stay in a cottage at Best Friends for most of my stay. I will be staying in a Studio rental apartment the first two nights, then staying the other 7 nights at BFAS in a cottage.

The Kanab Garden Studio is a new places for me. One of my friends who I am meeting out there is renting a house through them for her stay, and she recommended them. It has a queen size bed, Free WiFi, a flat screen tv, full bathroom and full kitchen. Here are a few pictures from their website.

Studio3.jpg

Nice, right? So I am staying there the nights of the 18th and 19th, then moving to a cottage on property at BFAS. Their cottages are right up against part of the horse pastures on one side, and cliffs on the other. It is gorgeous. They have 2 double beds, 3/4 bathroom, sitting room with sleeper sofa and tv, Free Wifi, and a kitchenette. Oh, and a deck that faces the horse pastures. Here are some pics of them from BFAS's website.

Cottage4.jpg

That last pic is of the cottages. Isn't the scenery great?!?

While we are there we will be volunteering at several areas of the sanctuary. I am personally volunteering with cats, dogs, horses and pigs. Pigs are one of my favorite places. I admit that I was a little concerned the first time my friend Christina (who organizes these meet-ups) told me to volunteer there, but I am converted! Pigs are amazing animals, smart, funny, loving and really fun to be around. And the Piggie Paradise (as their area is called) manager, Yvonne, is a doll!

We will also be visiting Sprindale, UT, and Zion National Park. I was there 2 years ago, and it is amazing. And, of course, we will be having lots of yummy dinners together and other fun times. Christina has adopted 2 special needs cats from BFAS, and has a third from her local animal shelter. One of her cats has only 2.5 legs, and is amazing. He runs and plays like a normal cat, despite only being able to use 2 legs (the 1/2 leg just works for balance at times for him).

And, to top it off, yesterday one of my friends who lives in Kanab asked me if I could bring 2 dogs back with me from a "rescue" that is shutting down in Arizona (Kanab is only 5 minutes north of the AZ/UT border) to a rescue that is agreeing to take them in NY. As long as it works out I will have 2 dogs with me on the 2.5 day drive back home from the 27th-30th.

I will definitely be taking a TON of pictures and will do a mini-TR here once I get back and settled. It may take a few days to start it since I get back on the 30th and the court case for the woman who hit my sister is on the 31st, and I am going for moral support. Then back to work November 1st.

I will be back a few times before I leave I'm sure. Hope you are all having a great week so far!

I haven't been to Utah since 2000. I'm really looking forward to seeing your photos! I also can't wait to hear all of the stories about the animals. You are a wonderful person to volunteer to do so much work for animals! :goodvibes Have a great and safe trip.

Thanks! I will be going to Zion National Park and probably Bryce Canyon in addition to the volunteering. I will definitely have a TON of pictures and stuff to share when I get back.

I forgot to mention that Best Friends has a sleepover program. If you are staying at an approved place (and I am), you can take a dog, cat or even a pig on a sleepover. It helps the animals as they get a change of pace and more individual attention, it helps Best Friends as they have you fill out evaluation forms that help them know what to work on with them to get them more home-friendly, and helps the volunteers as you have an animal to spoil that evening! I always take dogs for sleepovers, but this year I'm going to try to do a cat sleepover at least once (it was just started for cats after my last visit) and I already have a pig sleepover scheduled too!

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a good weekend so far :goodvibes

I am leaving in about 14 hours for my vacation to Utah, so I probably won't be on much the next two weeks. I will be checking in occasionally, since I have free WIFI out there, but won't be posting too much.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the month, and I will post lots of pictures from this trip, and a Disney update, once I get back! :dance3:

Hello everyone! I'm back from my vacation now :) I will be starting my mini-TR on it soon, probably tomorrow. Though I don't know how mini it will be :rotfl:

Tomorrow is the trial for the woman who hit my sister Heather last year. We were told that she is 99% leaning toward pleading guilty, which we really hope happens so we don't have to have a multi-day trial.

On to WDW news. I have had to cut my trip down some to save some money. This trip cost me more than I expected, and I'm also trying to start saving up to buy a house in about 2 years, and want to have as much saved as possible. So, I'm now just staying from Saturday February 11th to Saturday February 18th. One week, with 6 days at the parks. I am still staying at POP Century and doing the Behind the Seeds and Wild Africa Trek tours. I have free dining which helps save a considerable amount of money so that is good.

I hope everyone has been doing well the last two weeks, and I'm going to start catching up on all my subscribed threads. :goodvibes

Welcome Back! I will be praying that the woman decides to plead guilty so your family will not have to endure a trial. I am sure that you all don't want have to relive those bad times again.

Aww shucks, I hate that you have to cut the trip short but, you've got some great things planned so I am sure it will be an awesome trip.

Looking forward to reading the mini trip report.

Thanks! Her lawyer told the DA she was probably going to plead guilty, so I am hoping she does for sure. Heather will still have to make a statement before sentencing, but they won't have to do a whole trial, just an hour or so.

I'm sad I have to cut the trip short, but to be honest I first thought I was going to have to cancel completely, so a week is good with me :goodvibes

I'm starting to upload the pictures from the trip to Photobucket so that I can start the Mini TR. I got TONS of pictures, so I don't know how short it will be, but it was a fantastic vacation so I will enjoy reliving it through the TR.

Welcome back - glad you made it safely home. I'm sure you have lots of adventures to tell us about. Surely hope the driver pleads guilty to keep y'all from having to go though a whole trial. Good Luck!!

Thanks! I will do an update on the trial here in a second, then start my Mini-TR.

Quick trial update: She pleaded guilty with an Alfred plea, which had a max of 18 months in jail and 3 years probation for the charge. She was given the max penalty, but the judge then commuted all but 7 months of the jail time. She was taken immediately into custody to serve the 7 months of jail time. Not as much as we wanted, but at least it is over now.

DAY ONE: SUNDAY OCTOBER 16TH
GETTING STARTED AND MAKING GOOD TIME.

I woke up at 12:45am and took a quick shower and then packed the last of my toiletries. I also ate a quick bowl of cereal and loaded my overnight bag in the car. I had already loaded everything else in Saturday afternoon, and so I just had to take out my purse, camera and overnight bag with the clothes and travel size toiletries for while I was on the road. I said bye to my pets, parents and sisters, then pulled out of my house at around 2:10am. It was obviously dark out, so I didn't get any pictures for a while.

I got on a local highway, route 100, and took that for 17 miles until it ended at route 29. I took that onto Route 70W and that took me all the way to Utah. I only got off of 70W once I was in Utah, and of course for gas/potty/food/overnight stops along the way. I drove through Western Maryland and then into Western Pennsylvania. The first picture I took was around 5am, in the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel:

AlleghenyTunnelPA.jpg

I got on the PA Turnpike section of 70W, which is one of only two toll sections of 70 on it's entire run between MD and UT. Along the toll sections they have "Service Plazas". They are beefed up rest stops where you don't have to pay to exit or re-enter the highway. They have restrooms, but also a gas station and several food places. I stopped at one of the first ones I saw, in New Stanton, PA at around 5:50am.

RestStopNewStantonPA.jpg

I used the restroom, got some breakfast at the Burger Kind inside, and got some gas for my car since I was getting low. I made it to the end of the toll sections and had to pay a toll of $7.50! :scared1: For driving 1 hour on the toll section! Oh, I almost forgot that somewhere along the toll section I saw a deer. Well, not so much saw as had to swerve to avoid as it was in the middle of the road after I came over the top of a hill. But thankfully I had no trouble going around it since there were almost no cars. This was the only deer I saw in the road THE ENTIRE TRIP. :woohoo: Anyway, I made it through the rest of PA and into West Virginia for a short bit, only 10 miles. It was still too dark to get a picture of the Welcome to (enter state name) signs, so I missed that one and then the one as I came into Ohio around 7am.

By about 7:30am the sun started rising and I got a good picture using my "take a picture of the side mirror" trick. You will see this trick used several times later too. :rotfl2:

SunriseOH.jpg

By around 8am the run was up and the sky was blue.

SkyOH.jpg

I didn't get a ton of pictures in Ohio, though I don't remember why not. I remember taking a lot, but I don't think they turned out well and were blurry since I was driving. Here are a few that I took though:

TreesOH.jpg

CornOH.jpg

RoadworkOH.jpg

BuildingOH.jpg

By then it was around 9:30am and the sky was starting to not look as nice, as you can see in some of those pictures. Here is another of the cloudy sky.

SkyOH2.jpg

It never rained or anything, just got gray and cloudy for a while. Around 10:20am I made it out of Ohio and into Indiana.

GoodbyeOH.jpg

WelcomeIN.jpg

By about 10:45am though the clouds started breaking up again and it was blue and sunny out.

SkyIN2.jpg

I wrote down the cities for most of the rest stops I stopped in, but I didn't for this one. I know I stopped around 11:10am, and that it was before Indianapolis, but that's all. I just had a quick potty break and back in the car.

RestStopIN.jpg

I also stopped for gas, and lunch, which was at the McDonalds in Greenfield, IN. Around 11:50am I went thru Indianapolis and got an okay shot of the city and Lucas Oil Stadium as I drove past them.

IndianapolisIN.jpg

LucasOilStadiumIN.jpg

I also ran into the first bout of roadwork on my trip, which was by no means my last.

RoadworkIN.jpg

I got a nice shot of the fall foliage in Indiana before heading out into Illinois, and the central time zone, at around 12:10pm, CDT.

TreesIN.jpg

WelcomeIL.jpg

Just inside the Illinois border I stopped at the first rest stop to use the bathroom, the Cumberland Road rest stop. The building was cute, and I also grabbed maps for Illinois and Indiana in there.

RestStopIL.jpg

I got some pictures of a corn field, the water tower in Effingham, IL and a large cross sitting in a field, also in Effingham.

CornFieldIL.jpg

EffinghamTowerIL2.jpg

CrossIL.jpg

By large, I mean it was well over 100 feet tall. The closest thing to it was a warehouse, so I don't know why it was there.

UP NEXT: St Louis hates me, part 1

DAY ONE: SUNDAY OCTOBER 16TH, PART 2
ST. LOUIS HATES ME (PART 1)

So, as the title suggests, I think the city of St. Louis hates me. It was the only place where I had a lot of trouble both heading to Utah, and coming home. Around 2:40 (CDT) I started to approach St. Louis. All was well until I started getting closer and saw street signs about lane closures. Then, my GPS (which has traffic on it) started giving me "Road Closed" warnings, with no way to get around it. So, I sat in traffic for over 30 minutes while we squished 5 lanes of traffic into 1 to get across the Mississippi River and into St. Louis, and Missouri. However, I did have plenty of time to take pictures while waiting!

StLouisMO.jpg

GatewayArchMO.jpg

GatewayArchMO2.jpg

Once I actually got on the bridge over the Mississippi we were flying again, so this is the best picture I got of the Mississippi River.

MississippiRiverMO.jpg

And then, at around 3:15pm, I finally made it into Missouri.

WelcomeMO.jpg

I got a few pictures of St. Louis as I drove through it, including Busch Stadium, the city itself and a final shot of the Gateway Arch.

BuschStadiumMO.jpg

StLouisMO3.jpg

GatewayArchMO4.jpg

I also took a cute picture of the overhead bridges they had in the city. They go up or down instead of being level, and the railings just made it cuter.

I was a little puzzled by the roads in Missouri, as they all (except for the interstates) seemed to be just letters for the road names.

It went like that through the entire state, with double letter names (like AA, YY, etc) once there were no more single letters left. I made it thru a few cities, including New Florence, and into the Flint Hills area where it started to get more hilly.

It was still very nice out though, and the sun was shining. Around 5:20pm I made it over the Missouri River (for the second time technically, but no pics of the earlier time).

It started getting rockier and the sun started going down as I approached Kansas City.

Once I made it past Kansas City I decided that after I got thru the main suburbs I would start looking for somewhere to spend the night. I got one last shot of Kansas City as I moved past it.

As the sun started setting, around 6:45pm, I found a KFC for dinner and Super 8 to stay overnight at in Bonner Springs, KS. It was about $10 more than I wanted to pay for the night, but was also only a few months old and very nice. I did get a few pictures of the room before I ate and went to bed.

I downloaded my pictures for the day onto my laptop, text my friends and family where I was for the night, and went to bed around 9pm. I actually slept pretty well that night, which is unusual since I don't usually do great in new places for the first night. I guess I was tired from driving for 18 hours!
