 I haven't posted on here much, but I just wanted to share a little bit. My DD stood up on her own today, three times! This is a big day for us, since we had no idea if or when this would ever happen. A little background: DD is a year and a half old and although she can walk, she has gross motor delays. Some of her motor skills are at a 6-month-old level. She's about to start OT and PT (well, she had one session a while ago, didn't go well, and we are about to try again). Anyway, we have no idea what, if anything, is causing the delay. Where I live, you only get to see a pediatrician if there is something very wrong with your child, and then it takes forever to get an apointment. So even though DD's delay was (finally) recognized by medical professionals months ago, no one will even be attempting any diagnosis until July. :headache: In the past we saw our regular family doctor, who refused to believe she had any delay, and insisted that she was just a "difficult" child and spoiled. He has since lost his license for inappropriate conduct with a patient  So at the moment we have no doctor, which is making this whole issue so confusing because we are being told, yes, she needs help, but we have no idea why. Anyway, now that she's begun to stand on her own, I have hope that she's just a little behind and that she'll just catch up! I'm so happy! Thanks for listening, I know it was a long one. It's just so nice to have some good news after so much frustration.

congratulations, If you can find a developmental pediatrician.

Congratulations to you and to her! About the other things, I know it can be frustrating, well, I sort of know. I was my parent's first kid, but I have LOTS of cousins, so they weren't exactly new at kids. I was adopted and born three months premature, I have no known family medical history. My mom started to notice things that I wasn't doing that my cousin, who is 13 months older than I am, had been doing at the various ages and stages.

My pediatrician at the time told my mom she was wrong, a new mom, I was a premy, she was worrying over nothing, and that all children develop differently. But my mom was adamant, she knew I was dragging my right leg when I crawled, that I wasn't even trying to stand, and that I couldn't see very much. Finally, when I was almost two, the pediatrician sent my mom to the nearest Children's Hospital, "Just to prove she doesn't have C.P." Well... guess what I have?

I tell you this because I hope you know one day your daughter will appreciate everything you're doing. I'm glad she's doing new things and that you are continuing to do what is best for her. (My cousin is mentally retarded, but my aunt and uncle ignored it, and while my cousin will never do certain things, he would have been able to do a lot more, if it weren't for their pride.)
