Dan and I just found out that his dad got reservations for him, Dan, me, and two of Dan's sisters are going on a cruise to Mexico in September. I've never been to Mexico, and neither has Dan, so we're both pretty excited. This will be my third cruise trip, but my first official cruise as a wheelchair user. Dan's dad hasn't told us what cruise line we are going on, but there's a possibility that I can take my power chair along if we go down to L.A. to get on the boat in Dan's dad's truck.

This will be my first time going out of the country with it if I am able to take it. Has anyone done a cruise with a wheelchair, either power or manual? How easy is it?

Thanks, Samantha

Make sure you bring both. Most of the ports outside of the US are not powerchair friendly. Some of the Mexican ones are doable but thats about it. Always safer to use the manual chair.

We have done 2 crusies with our daughter (she was 3 and 4). THe first one she was in her manual chair, the second she was in her power chair. We never brought either one off the boat. I was afraid we would get stuck somewhere. But she is little still and fit nicely in a backpack or a stroller.

I just don't know how handicap friendly other countries are. I would bring a manual one too.

Have fun

Amy
