Susan, 40 - trip report writer and original Disney fanatic
Tara, 17 - always ready to get the Disney party started
We left straight from my office in midtown Atlanta at 5:30 a.m. and arrived at Saratoga Springs at approximately 12:15 p.m. Check-in was smooth and the CM's were very pleasant and helpful. We were given a choice of waiting for a room with a DTD view, which we had requested, or taking a room that was ready which did not have this view. We wanted to go ahead and get into our room, so we chose to take one that was ready. We grabbed lunch at Artist's Palette and took it with us to the room. After lunch, we took a bus to DTD to activate our annual pass vouchers and buy a pass for Tara, which we did at Guest Relations there. Then we made our way to the toy store, so she could purchase the new Pal Mickey. Soon it was time to head over to the World Showcase in Epcot to see an Off Kilter show and participate in the DIS meet afterwards.
Off Kilter gave a great show, as they always do. Larry closed his eyes for a moment, because the sun was shining in them, and Mark (the bass player) motioned for me to wake him up, thinking he was asleep. When I touched him, Larry opened his eyes and Mark said "Good morning!" I thought that was pretty funny, although I intended to tell Mark after the set that Larry wasn't asleep - I just didn't get the chance.
The DIS meet was a lot of fun - we enjoyed talking with so many other Disney nuts and comparing notes on our favorite things to do in Disney. I hope we get to do another one of these some time - we weren't able to stay at this one as long as we would have liked, because we had a 6:00 PS for Jiko.
We took the bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge and were seated promptly for dinner. Unfortunately, the food was not that great and the service was terrible. We were disappointed, as we had been looking forward to this meal. We did not particularly care for the Boma dinner buffet, either, so I don't think we will be going back here for a meal any time soon.
By the time we finished dinner, it was almost time for the MK extra magic hours, so we headed over there and got our wristbands. We headed for BTMRR first, which was a mistake for Larry so soon after dinner. After one ride, he was pretty much done for and he went back to the room. This is one of Tara's favorite rides, so she and I rode again. She still wanted to ride, so I left her to it and walked over to Splash to ride by myself. We met up afterwards and attempted to see the Country Bears show. Unfortunately, it was down for technical difficulties with one of the bears. The CM standing outside the entrance said that the rogue bear had attacked a guest in the previous show, and they were trying to clean up the place so none of the kids would be exposed to the blood and gore! We decided we would catch this one later and went on to enjoy a ride on the Haunted Mansion. The CM's here are so good at staying in character - I have always wanted to figure out a way to make one of them smile, but haven't been successful yet. In all the times I have been on this ride, this was the first time I looked up in the stretching room during the pre-show and saw the shadow of someone hanging from the ceiling. It is amazing how you can keep seeing little things you missed on your favorite attractions no matter how many times you have experienced them. Next we enjoyed the Philharmagic show, which will always make me think of my dad (it was his favorite attraction in MK in January). Then we rode Peter Pan and the Pooh ride in quick succession. We wanted to see Small World since it had been redone, but this is Larry's favorite ride (it is the first ride he and I rode together on our honeymoon in 1984) so we didn't have the heart to ride it without him. We will catch it later in the week. Tara loves the tea cups, so we got on those and gave them a spin, so to speak. Then we made our way back to Adventureland and rode POC. I was extremely tired by this point, as I had had no sleep the night before (I work a third shift job and we left straight from my office) and no chance for a nap today, so I plopped down on a bench while Tara rode the Magic Carpet ride. While I was waiting for her, a CM stopped to ask if they had worn me out (I must have looked as tired as I felt) and I explained to her why I was so exhausted. She and I had a pleasant conversation, which Tara joined when she got off the ride. On our way out, she bought a Dole Whip (which I had one bite of) and ate it as we walked out. The bus to SSR was slow in coming, but it finally arrived and we made our weary way back to our room for some much needed rest.
