Dogsitting issues - WWYD?

I don't "think" he has fleas but will check him more clsely when I get home. He has been groomed recently (based on his appearance) so maybe there's nothing to worry about.

So the friend will have the dog groomed.......but shots, neutering, preventative treatment for fleas they can't be bothered with?:confused3

I would probably keep the dog outside or in the garage or something. Sounds like a lonnngggg five days of dogsitting. You're a good friend!!!

wow! I would never have asked a friend to watch my dog if she wasn't well behaved. I used to swap dog sitting priveleges with a close friend at work. He thought I was nuts when I wrote a letter listing vet info and providing him the ok to make medical decisions on our behalf. I always provided a copy of the vaccine list. My golden was a well behaved dog who interacted well with my colleagues dog of around the same age/nature. We watched each other's dogs for years.

When that golden passed and we got a new one, our Riley is not as well behaved and because she was a pup with a pup's energy, was no companion for an older dog. So I found a doggie day care to board her during vacations.

At 2.5 she's much better and we may ask a close friend's 18 yr old daughter to house/dog sit this summer. But I still wouldn't let her go to another friends house.

Your friend is crazy! I would not care what my husband said that dog would get fixed and vaccinated period!

I would frontline the dog, call the people on their cell phone and tell them the dog is making a mess in your house because it's not fixed and they need to pay for a carpet cleaning company to come in after they pick up the dog to clean the carpet and any furniture he marks.

I'd also ask them about his vaccinations during that phone call.

After they get home, I'd inform them that you will never watch their dog again.

I'd call them and say "This isn't working - you said the dog would be neutered, but he isn't, and he's marking. I need to take him to a kennel. Is there one you would prefer, or do you want me to pick one? You can either call them with a credit card number, or you can pay when you pick him up."

No way a kennel will take without proof of vaccinations. Plus most require Bordetella in addition to the rabies vaccine.

I would take him home and then care for him like a pet sitter.

Good point, I didn't think of that. So when I called, I'd also say "I need the name of your vet to confirm he's vaccinated." And if she doesn't provide that, or says he's not up to date on his vaccines, THAT'S when I would say "You left me an unvaccinated dog? And you know I have pets? What were you thinking? I'm taking him back to your house right now, and I'll make sure he has food and water every day, but whatever you find inside the house when you come home is your problem!" ;)
