How awful!! We NEVER allow any of our kids' friends around our dogs without us being present. We have a 90lb labradoodle - friendliest dog around, but he's a dog. You can never tell what could trigger aggression in an otherwise calm dog. Our other dog is a 15lb peke spaniel X who is more aggressive than the big one. All of the kids think because she's small and cute that they can pat or pick her up. I just won't take that chance, so dogs are crated when kids are over if I can't be right there watching.

That's what I was thinking. Then I wondered why since the boy didn't survive. Then I was talking to DH about it and realized (pretty much at the same time that DH said it) that they'd still need to know. DH said 'if they had rabies, they got it from somewhere.'

That is very unusual for a bulldog. Do you know what kind - English bulldog, French bulldog, American bulldog? That's really unheard of, they're not violent dogs.

Pit bulls should be winnowed out, that breed is nothing but trouble and just screams "trailer park trash". You don't hear too much about those aformentioned killer poodles and cocker spaniels...wonder why.

No sorry necessary, I was just surprised since it would be so out of a bulldog's character. I thought perhaps it wasn't the dog but another animal that wandered into the yard. You just never know and there have recently been coyote attacks on kids up to 6 years old in the surrounding area.

Such sad stories, the poor kids. Were they unsupervised during the attacks?

that is the story of the 4 year girl from WI. It sounds like she was in the yard with the dog by herself, and the boxer was chained up in the yard and slipped out of the collar and attacked her

It is a terrible story. It is never a good idea to leave a child unattended with a dog. Never. I have two dogs, they are very sweet and just adore kids and love playing with them. I would never leave a child with them alone however, they are animals and you don't know what will happen.
