Molly went to the vet on Wednesday and was spayed, micro-chipped, and had 5 stubborn baby teeth extracted! I asked permission at work to bring her in Thurs. and Fri. so I could keep an eye on her. She is a Mal Shi, and never barks and has been good as gold! She is enjoying the extra attention from everyone.

Have you ever taken your dog (or cat!) to work with you?

I never mind a dog in the workplace, though I've never seen one. Someone brought in a kitten once, but they found it that day and tried to get someone to take it home, which they did.

At a meeting recently we were in a co-op type work space and a dog just wandered into our meeting room when lunch came in. He was a sweetie and got all kinds of attention. Too much it seems as he had to be removed from the room.

I wish! I'd love to bring my dogs to work, and I'd love it if co-workers brought their dogs. My dogs would happily curl up at my feet and sleep for 95% of the day without bothering a soul.

At my first job out of college, they let me bring my dog daily. I had a brand new puppy and he spent every day sleeping on a towel in the bottom drawer of my desk :lol
At my last job, we had a professor who regularly brought her dog, it was nice to have him around the office. I'd only bring mine for an hour here and there when they had a vet appointment.

Yep, I have a little Yorkie and if she has to go to the vet and my honey can't pick her up, I'll pick her up and bring her to work until he can come get her. Or he will pick her up and bring lunch by and we'll all eat lunch at my desk. There were times when she was a little younger if he had to be out of town (he works from home so she's rarely alone) for more than a day or two I would bring her so she wouldn't be alone. We are a small office and everyone loves her, I normally keep her in my office with me with the door closed if she is here. A long time ago, we had a couple of employees that always brought their dogs for whatever reason with them.

For lots of reasons I won't go into here, I ended up bringing my boxer to work everyday. My Boss (the CFO), and the other executives were all okay. I hesitated but they said "No, bring hi!" It is an office with cubicles and he would stay with me but would venture out when certain people came in. When I had to run errands he stayed in the office in a central location keeping an eye out for my return. Everyone (said they did) loved him.

I've read this is becoming more common, I hope that trend continues. Some fairly big companies -- ones like Google known for innovative work environments, but also companies like Amazon that have reputations as high-stress workplaces, are allowing this. There is some great research suggesting that employees are more focused at work when they are allowed to have their pets in the office. They are also more willing to work long hours and generally happier and more satisfied, which is good for productivity.

My dod died several years ago but we have other bring their dogs in as well. There si a cute Boston Terrier here today!

I would love to bring one of my dogs to work. We have one that is a cuddlebug and would just lay under my desk all day and be as happy as can be. I've read that pets help to reduce stress and we definitely need that around here. It would never be allowed here though.

I think having dogs at work will be a good thing. Dogs make people happier, less stress, lowers blood pressure. As long as there wasn't any danger to the dog I'm all for it. If someone didn't like it like a poster here said go look for another job. I'm talking about well behaved friendly dogs.

My office is very dog friendly. The two owners bring their two dogs every day, plus there are about 5 other dogs that come on a regular basis (and that's just to one office, the other has even more dogs). I love it. It's nice to have them around during the day and they are a stress reducer.

We're a cat household, and I have never had a cat that would do well outside our house....and they were all house cats.
As for dogs at work, it depends on the dog. A co-workers Golden Retriever got attacked by a Pit Bull and got stitches, and she brought him in for 2 weeks. He never left her work space, even if she left. He never barked, and other than wagging his tail when one of us came by and talked to him or petted him, never moved.
On the other hand, some one else brought in their high strung dog in, and he ran wild through the building (our building is 2 city blocks long) and left a mess in another department. As cute as he is, he needs to stay home.

I don't because our specific office manager hates dogs however the company as a whole is dog friendly and calls it out in the employee handbook that dogs are allowed you just have to give a heads up.

Also to the person who said no dogs because children aren't allowed I think watching over a sick kid is different then a post op dog. Our office actually has a pretty relax kid policy too so if you had to keep your kid home from school for say a cast that is still drying you could bring them to the office but we don't have extra chairs or things to keep them occupied and they can't disturb others. For the dogs who have come they always stay under the desk of the owner and ether chew on a bone or sleep all day.

Either way we also have a super relaxed work from home policy so most of us work from home if there is something at home we need to care for be it lets or people.

I work from home. My dog is sleeping at my feet, right now. :lovestruc

She really helps with my students, too. They always seem more relaxed and focussed when she's curled up next to them. (Plus, it's awesome to see how even a really difficult, angry kid can be gentle and considerate with an animal - it shows their real character.)
