Dogs allowed at OKW?

We've been staying at OKW since the 90s, and I don't ever recall dogs being allowed unless they were service/support dogs. Are you seeing dogs as pets at OKW? They shouldn't be. OKW is not one of the 4 WDW resorts allowing non-service pets.

When did that change happened? Non support/service dogs at OKW.
Technically, non support/service dogs are not allowed, but some people find a way to sneak them in. And frankly, Disney hasn't been as diligent as they should be about it. I remember a person a few years ago complaining about the constant barking of the dogs next door at OKW. He made several trips to the front desk to complain and never felt they were treating it firmly. One time he was told that "the owners are in the parks", and he wondered "Why aren't the service dogs in the parks too, performing their 'services' for the person who needs them?" Disappointing to hear that it's still an issue.

YES! They are not Service Dogs! One was an elderly Frenchie barely able to walk dog. The other one just took a dump outside of bldg. 45.

Management and employees, not just at Disney but everywhere, are afraid to confront these people for some reason … bring your service animals but leave your house pets/live stock at home .. it’s ludicrous we have to even have this discussion

Service Dogs are trained to a level you would never know they were present in most situations, visually only, if properly trained. In my experience a service dog does not relieve themselves on the grass in front of building 45. My goodness no, the facility I work at the offenders train the dogs to relieve themselves only when given command "Get Busy" they stand at a designated area for animal relief and wait for the command that's part of their training.

All resorts should have an animal relief area and that is the only area animals should be relieving themselves, there should be a garden hose to wash down area when animal relief is completed and plastic bags to discard remains in which CM should change often to keep odor eliminated as much as possible.

Whether the animal is a service animal, emotional support dog or someone's pet if they are going to travel into resort areas of any kind there needs to be a respect for other members. Some people are deathly allergic to dogs, some people simply may not like dogs, that's not wrong it's their choice. While others myself included may be a dog lover but still do not want to witness the animal relieving itself in front of my balcony while enjoying my morning coffee.

Its' a simple matter of respect for each other. If OKW does not have an animal relief area, then shame on them especially if they are the evacuation resort for campgrounds as many experienced posters have indicated. If they do have one and guests are not using it, then shame on them for not respecting the other guests at the resort enough to use the facilities properly.

Disclaimer: It’s the law and the right thing to do, service animals are essential to people and they have every right to be accommodated in hotels. However, it is up to the same hotels to be cognizant of those who have serious allergies they have declared prior to checking into the property.

We have it noted in our “permanent disney record” (yes, I do laugh when I see that term in print) that there are two issues in my group an A) dog and B) bee allergy.

The first, since Disney doesn’t offer allergy friendly rooms, they state they automatically do an extra deep clean of the room after a service animal has been in it, prior to assigning it to another guest

The 2nd, due to finding a nest in corner of a balcony, request to not be placed in the rooms at one of our home resorts (AK). The pool area rooms have flowering trees and, accordingly, lots of bees around many of the balconies

Does it work? usually

once @ a POP value, shortly after entering the room, could tell there had been a pet (in ground floor non accessible room).

They found us another room. made a point stating we were being “upgraded” to a preferred room & commented that the room would have to be “turned over again” since we entered it. :confused3
Um, while you are in there give it the deep cleaning you should after an animal has occupied it.:rolleyes1

Last visit to AK I had to remind them when I saw the assignment had big tree in front of the room balcony. They double-checked that and did quickly reassigned us. Had to wait for room to be ready, fine by us.
