I have a Chow...she's approx 8-9 years old (Abandoned so not sure)

Last September she had surgery for a ruptured Crushid (sp??) ligament. Her recovery was quite long with the Vet advising that after 3 months, that would be "as good as it gets". Well, she is worse than prior to surgery and the Vet feels that she likely re-injured it.I don't see how..she just never recovered? Now, my Vet has been with us for more than 20 years and through very, many pets and I highly respect her. My dog is now on Cosequin 3x daily and Metacam (Similar to Rimadyl) and no improvement. She puts very little weight on her back left leg and as such the muscle is really atrophying. Any suggestions?

I am worried as to what will happen when her back, right leg gives out and is no longer able to bear the added burden. She also has a lot of Arthritis in her knees and hips.Poor baby...:(

A second opinion maybe? I know it's hard when you have been using someone for so long, but if it's best for you dog maybe you should think about it. Good luck!

This DOES sound like a reinjury. It doesn't take much with these kinds of injuries, and she is not young. It sounds like another surgery is in order.

Most likely, she tore a meniscus and will have to have it taken out for any relief. (The menesci are cartilage pads.) Ask your vet if he/she thinks you should see an orthopedic surgeon. Don't go to another general practitioner; that would be insulting and probably a waste of time. Ruptured menisci can't be detected w/an x-ray, so your pet might have to have exploratory surgery or more advanced imaging before you will know for sure.

I agree with DocRafiki. Get a referral from your vet and go to an orthopaedic surgeon.
