I heard today that (although he can still appeal it) Dwayne "Dog" Chapman, his brother Tim and son Leland are going to be extradited to Mexico to face charges for "illegally arresting" that scum bag Andrew Luster (convicted on multiple counts of rape) heir to the Max Factor fortune.

I'm really upset about this. Dh and I are big fans of the show and of "Dog" and his family (Beth cracks us UP!). I truly hope that he can get the charges dropped and avoid extradition and such but if he must go back to Mexico I REALLY hope he is found not guilty. He's done a lot of good for Hawaii and the world at large.

I would ask that if he is sent back that if found guilty he could be returned to serve time in the states and at a min. federal facility. We already do enough for Mexico to grant us that. And although I've seen the show just a couple of times, I think what he did was great. JMHO

I've only seen about 10 minutes of one show, but have no problem with what he did.

The fact that murderers and rapists can run to Mexico and are sheltered is OK, but hauling them back isn't?! Whatever.

On the flip side, it isn't like his daughter/sister/mother was attacked by that guy. He went there for the money and fame. He knew what he was gambling by doing it and took the gamble. He went on TV bragging about and flaunting what he was doing. Changed his tune in a big way once they put him in jail.

Then he came home and instead of quitting while he was ahead, he went on TV again, even had his own show. He practically begged them to make an issue out of it.

If he'd just been quiet, they might have let it go. So, I don't feel too sorry for him.

He went to a foreign country where bounty hunting is illegal.

He kidnapped somebody and tried to flee the country with him

Dog may be able to carry out a citizen's arrest in Hawaii, but he had no right to do this in Mexico -- regardless of what anyone may think about Andrew Luster.

I think he did everyone a favor when he went to Mexico. Our govt. certainly wasn't doing anything about it. Mexico wants it both ways. If you won't extradite someone from your country that we want then don't expect us to do the same.

Sure it made him famous but I see what good he has done with that fame. Talk about someone who has turned his life around. I'm outraged that this is even an issue.

For the record, Dog and his associates were never even paid for the actual capture of Andrew Luster. He certainly could have pursued payment of the bounty, but didn't.

Either the Mexican gov't didn't know where Luster was (stupid, since he was living the playboy bachelor high life - very publicly throwing cash around bars and nightclubs), or they knew where he was and looked the other way because Luster was throwing cash at them too. In either case, I don't think the US gov't owes Mexico any cooperation.

ITA w/bobcat - this is an absolute outrage!

We should give them back Luster and they can let him roam free and what would they do if he started raping their women?

he was'nt paid not because he did'nt apply for the bounty and rewards-but because he was found ineligible for the rewards because he did'nt meet the criteria.

although i am glad luster was apprehended because of dog's efforts-what dog did was illegal, he as a professional bounty hunter knew it was illegal and parlayed both the apprehension as well as his subsequents arrests into very lucrative situations (i doubt he had a camera crew and was making direct phone calls to court tv every tme he approached a person he was trying to apprehend:rolleyes: -this was after all BEFORE he was doing the tv show, but he managed to have a live phone call going with court tv before even confirming the man he was kidnapping was luster-and his new arrest resulted in several a&e specials which i'm sure he was generously compensated for). he and the others are now facing the same charges they earn their living 'fighting'-paying bail and running (they failed to appear for their kidnapping and other charges back when this incident happened-i suspect if he did'nt have such a 'tough on bail jumpers' stance-the government would'nt be pursuing it with him-he can't have it one way for himself and another for those he makes money pursuing).

Hey JEN: We both have DOG tags!!! :lmao: I LOVE the DOG!!! :goodvibes I am so worried about this....and I am so sure the whole Chapman family is devastated right now with this recent news. :sad2:

Ya, how about we do that, give Luster back and let him roam and then see how Mexico comes screaming for DOG to get this CREEP off their streets. :thumbsup2

I enjoy his show from time to time, but you have to remember, these people he is out capturing on the show are out of jail in the first place because he (or his wife) originally bailed them out.

DVC-Don...he is a BAIL BONDSMAN. If a guy skips out on the bail/doesn't appear, then he hunts them down and hauls them back in. I totally don't understand what you are saying with your post.

I DO wonder why he didn't seem to understand the laws Mexico has regarding bounty hunting. There was probably a way for him to have captured Luster there without breaking a law. My guess is that they were so stoked about having actually found him that they swooped in a nabbed him without going through the proper channels (which would liekly have resulted in Luster getting away). They searched all over the world for Luster (Fiji, Europe etc).

MHO is that yeah he broke Mexican law by capturing Luster...but you know what? I'm totally ok with that and everything he did trying to get that waste of human flesh off the streets and brought back to the US to serve his time.

............

As a retired law enforcement officer I know what he does and I dispise him (and other bail bondsmen/women) for it. If you can't make bail on your own, stay there till your trial. They are much less likely to run if it is their own money/property on the line.

Is there anything else you don't understand?:confused3

So if your poor and a criminal tough but if your rich and a criminal it's ok? Guess that's why Luster was able to flee so far and someone had to have the guts to go and get him.

Don't be so condescending DVC-Don. So you don't like what he does, but my point is that he isn't out there bailing guys out for giggles and laughs or to put bad guys out on the street to wreak havoc. We'll have to agree to disagree about the nature of Dog's business.

On a personal level, he seems to be a caring, spritual, and generous (and reformed) guy

I don't think this is true. Dog is not a bail bondsman, he is a bounty hunter. He didn't bail anybody out, the bondsman does that. Bounty hunters are paid by the bondsman to retrieve people who jump bail.

Actually it is true; he is a bail bondsman. Their company is Da Kine Bail Bonds. By virtue of them not showing up for their court dates, that's why he has the authority to go after them.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" sounds a lot better for tv than "Dog the Bail Bondsman".

I like Dog and agree with the comments above about Mexico wanting it both ways. We've got a lot of their undesireables that they can have back instead of Dog, Leland, and Tim.

I hope they arnt sent back. They didnt get the show beacuse they captured him, they already had an episode filmed before.

The way it works is Beth (who i cannot stand) bails them out, then dog, the bounty hunter, brings them in

Whether your agree with the Mexican laws or not, the fact remains that they broke the law in another country and should be held accountable for it. They knew the Mexican regulations regarding bounty hunting before they even set foot on Mexican soil!

I think that Dog and his family are good people and that it is a WONDERFUL thing that Andrew Luster was brought to justice but two wrongs don't make a right.

We don't like when citizens from other nations come and break our laws - now do we?
