to watch a dog in your home for a week? Normally I would do it for free.. but I really dont like the person I'm dog sitting for..:rolleyes1 Dh signed me up for this its coming tonight. We'll be having a little chat about this later...

I think in-home pet sitting gets more than a kennel. I would charge $175. for the week.

Around here for someone to come to your house they charge $25 a visit- so around $50 a day.

For you in your own home I would say $15 a day? If they are providing food.

I use TWO dog sitters when I go away. (Going away tomorrow as a matter of fact.) One lady comes from a town away and charges $10 per visit. (She comes 2 x day - morning and early afternoon) The other lady comes in the night time and she's got an actual business (licensed, insured, etc.) and she's $13 per visit.

I still like this because he's in his own home/environment and not locked in a cage at the kennel, and they stay with him for a while, let him out in our big yard, pet him, etc. All those things cost extra, extra, extra at the kennels. So for me, this works a lot better.

Our local kennel charges $35 plus tax per day and they are 20+ miles away from us. I pay my cousin $30 a day to come to my house. When we're gone more than just a couple days she will acutally stay overnight there, but if it's just a weekend, she just comes about 4 times each day. morning, noon-ish, dinnertime, and bedtime.

Edited to add: these prices are for two (easy) med. size dogs.

Well I am a dogsitter. I do it out of my home and have been for the last 14 years. I charge less then a kennel. I charge 15$ per day per dog. I really love dogs(Have 3 of my own and a foster dog). Here the fancier kennels(like Petsmart Hotel)charge more then 20$ a day..I forgot the actual prices right now.

My dogsitter stays in my home so he's actually a housesitter as well. I pay him $25 per day plus I give him a day's pay as a bonus because he does such a great job. He spend so much time playing with our dog that she's just exhausted when we get back and she sleeps for a day straight. :lmao:

I pay DD's friend $10/day to come check on our cat and the house when we go away.

we pay our neighbors son $20.00 per day (he lives right across the street). We have a dog and a cat....he will come in the AM to give them breakfast/let dog out, come mid-day....let dog out, check waters for both and then early evening to feed both and let dog out again.

Our dog sitter is also our housekeeper and charges 20.00 per day and comes 3x a day. She feeds her 2x a day, takes her for walks and brings her swimming.

This is just such a bad week to sign me up for this! Our doggy died beginning of July we miss her like mad but we made a deal with the kids we'd get another dog after they were in school because let's face it I don't have time for a new dog right now our baby just learned to walk last week tommrw is our dd 7th birthday we are going to be gone to the zoo most of the dAy now I have to worry about rushing home to this unfamiliar dog who'll be here we have appointments at DRs 2 at the school this week what a nutjob for thinking this was a good idea! I have no clue what this dog is like they have a 4 yr old boy so I guess (it better be) it's good with kids I hope it likes cats!! I could kill him for doing this but it's too late for her to make other arrangments and I guess I have to make the best of it it will be here soon I don't even know it's name!

I live somewhat near you and we pay $20 for the first dog per day and $10 for each additional dog per day. The person who sits also would feed our fish (that we no longer have) and would water my plants in the kitchen.

We had a pet sitter come take care of our 2 goldens, 2 cats, 2 betta fish (seems like we have 2 of everything!;)) and more than 2 hermit crabs. Granted, the fish and hermit crabs were a once a day thing, but we paid her $15 visit and had her come 4x a day. (My dad also came a couple times a day to let the dogs out). Obviously, much cheaper than putting the four legged furbabies in a kennel and they were in their own environment.

I think she fed them all a little too well, because one of our cats almost looked like he was waddling, but he was happy and content!!:goodvibes:thumbsup2

She also brought our mail in and hauled the garbage cans to the curb on trash day. I think we got a bargain!

This is interesting to read. My roommate has offered to pay me when he's gone and I watch his dogs but I have turned it down because I love the dogs. I still don't want any money for it, but I think it's interesting to know how much people get paid for it.

I just recently switched over from boarding to home visits. My sitter charges $16/visit for 2 visits, then $10 for a shorter mid day visit. I don't think we could do less than 3 visits. This is for 2 dogs, one walk, playing, interacting, etc. We just got a new kitty which she is gladly including with no extra charge. So I am paying $42/day-exactly what my kennel charged, and they are here when I leave and here when I get home..no extra nights before and after. I am very pleased with this arrangement.

My Mom would watch our dog for us when we went out of town. She had a job that she would take off from and we would pay her what she would get paid for the week at her job. It was like $250. She didn't like to take it, but we wouldn't not pay her that. I think dogsitting companies are different though.
