Dog - Sick - need some help

Help, here it is 4:58 a.m. and our Dog Buddy who is an Aussie and weights about 60lbs has the trots. I put him out but can't leave him out due to the cold. He has made a mess - not big but due to his fur, it is in his fur. I cleaned my carpets where he had his accidents. I am leaving cleaning dog up for my DH as he wouldn't move when I discovered it when I got up this morning. I had to bribe Buddy with a milkbone to get him down in our basement because he stinks as I tried to lure him into the bathroom but he wouldn't go. What do I do for a dog that has the runs to put it nicely? Do I treat him like a person? Too early to call the vet - will give them a call around 8 a.m. and hopefully they will be in. He has been treated previously but not recently for Lyme even though he gets his shots for it, he has gotten that but he has never had the runs when he has been sick with Lyme. No other symptoms that I can see. No one in our family is sick - I don't wan't it to go thru our house again. Did that last month and it was bad. I don't think my DH has changed his food. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have an emergency vet in the area that you can call? We have one here that is open 24/7. They should be able to give you a little guidance.

Also, double check if you even think your DH changed the type of dog food your dog is eating. Changing dog food too fast can indeed cause your dog to have the runs.

I am leaving cleaning dog up for my DH as he wouldn't move when I discovered it when I got up this morning.

In the past (and present) I have had dogs with sensitive systems. Following a vet's advice originally, I give the dog Immodium tablets (child's dose -- depending on the weight of course).
I have given my dogs when necessary, aspirin (arthritis), Immodium, and Tums.
My oldest and largest (100 #) has colitis, and a very sensitive digestion tract overall.
Although if the symptoms persisted or worsened I would call a vet right away.

take him to the vet first to rule out anything serious and then no food for a while (water only ) and then when you give food, give them rice.That's what my vet told me to do

I don't know what to do for him but just wanted to say that when you can, you definitely might want to call the vet. Our daughters dog picked up a virus at the vet, when she was in to get her teeth cleaned, that lasted a week. Actually, she is just now starting to get over it and it started last Friday. She was throwing up and has diarrhea. The vet kept her for a couple of days to give her fluids so that she wouldn't become dehydrated. I think dogs can become dehydrated much quicker than humans.
