Recently, our dog has been coughing up all the stuff we've fed him :guilty:. Most of the time there's alot of flem coming up too. He's also not been as perky as usual. We're waiting until 1 o'clock tonight to see if he gets better, and if not we're calling the vet. Anybody have any idea of what's wrong with him?

I hope you go him to the Vet. That doesn't sound so good. My first thought was he has an obstruction or he ate something toxic.

How long has this been happening?

If you haven't yet taken him to the vet, do it right now.

Is he coughing up or throwing up-is the food partially digested? We had a Newf who developed an esophageal condition that nothing (water, food) would get to his stomach, whenever he threw up there had been no digestion. His esophagus would constrict and not allow the food to get to his stomach. The vet said this happens sometimes in large breeds. I'm sorry to scare you, but our Newf lost a lot of weight from this and we finally had to have him put down. I wouldn't have mentioned it, but it was a difficult diagnosis so I wanted to let you know so maybe you can act on it sooner. I hope that's not it and just a tummy ache..

Why are you waiting until 1 o'clock tonight to see if he gets better? What will you be able to do at 1 o'clock tonight...assuming that by "1 o'clock tongiht" you mean 1AM.

Call your vet now and take the dog to see him/her.

Might not be related, but when my cat had similar symptoms, it was because his thyroid was not functioning.

Could it be kennel cough? My dog had it a year ago and he did gag and vomit (lovely, I know).

I got my dog to the vet the very morning he had a similar incident and had tests done. It turned out he had a pancreatic infection.

OP, I hope you got your dog into the vet.

I'm wondering what the vet said...

There are several serious, even life threatening things that could be going on with your pet. Did this just start happening or has he had these symptoms for several days?

Sounds to me like your dog's regurgitating. If it's coming back up RIGHT after eating, and is looking pretty much like it did goin down, then it ain't vomit, it's regurgitation!

I would assume by now you've gotten a diagnosis from your veterinarian? What the matter?

Sounds like Bordatella (kennel cough). Has he been in close contact with other dogs? Does he "gag" after drinking water? or playing?
