Dog Kennel Question

We are looking into getting an RV (it will be our first). I'm thinking a Class A or C. I'm going to book a Disney Trip for next (2012) November. By then I HOPE to have an RV.

I would be taking three little dogs with us (at the most three... two may only be joining us). I know a while back there was a kennel at the camp and it looks like it's gone now.

I really don't want to leave my dogs in an RV. They bark at just about anything when they are alone... and to be nice to my RV neighbors, I would want to have them in a kennel for the day (or just a few hours). I see that there is a new kennel... but how to do you get there? Does Disney expect you to unhook your RV (if you have a Class C or A) and drive there? Then go back to your site... go do the parks... come back to the site... get in your RV to pick up your dog? It just doesn't make enough sense to me. Worst case, we would just have someone stay in the RV and just rotate.

So what do you do in this situation? I'm just wondering so I can kinda have a "plan" going forward.

The new Kennel is a lot more expensive than the old one ran by disney, it might be a little much for three. We just leave ours in the camper and leave on the TV so they have a distraction. We usually come back for a break in afternoon and take them out and again when we come back. You will have to have transportation to the Kennel its about 1/2 mi from the fort.

I can't believe they moved the kennel and not provide a shuttle to it.

Why not call the kennel directly and see exactly what can (or can't) be done?

What you have in mind is more doggy day care than true kenneling--

I wouldn't think that you would want to leave them alone if they bark when there is no one with them.
I don't think that would be any fun for them or for your neighbors.

The new kennels cost is outrageous! I'd let your pups get used to the RV before you go by putting them in it every day maybe in an enclosed PVC type kennel they would all fit it to keep each other company and a tv or radio on loud enough they can't hear outside noises. My fur baby goes with me and my camp neighbors often tell me if they didn't see me walking her they wouldn't even know a dog was in there. Mine started off in a kennel and was weened out slowly and now has free reign! Enjoy your vacation!!!

If they are going to bark regardless, just crank the tv or a radio, step outside to see that it won't disturb neighbors. If the tv/radio is loud enough, they wont hear anything going on outside the RV. Believe me there are plenty of RVs we have walked by and saw a dog in the window just a barking away. I would try to block off their access to windows they could get in to see things to bark at. They will bark at the kennel and be stressed. So, what's the point really of boarding them. If they are barkers, they will bark wherever they are. Just try to drown them out a bit, so neighbors wont hear them. Most people are at the parks during the days too.

Hi Kris,

We used the kennels in May and were very pleased with them. Our little Jack Russell barks way too much and we would be having to come back way too often to take her out so we thought it was the best solution for us.

It is pricey but she loved going every day. There is no transportation from the fort that I know of. We have a fifth wheel so using our truck to take her and pick her up was no problem for us but I could see how having a motorhome could be. It is very close so driving there was never a problem. We also parked across the street in Port Orleans and took the trams from there that way we would get dropped off there at the end of the day to pick her up.

We elected to pick her up in the evenings, they stay open for one hour after the last park closes. We also elected to put her in Stay and Play so she got 4 hours of playtime each day in addition to her regular outings...our little one has a ton of energy! The people there were great and took good care of her.

Like I said she loved it there, she would wag her tail and pull us into the kennel every day! It was worth it for us since living on the West Coast we don't get to WDW very often so we spent almost every waking hour in the parks. We also never had to worry about her or worry about getting back to take her out which is what vacations are all about. It worked for us but it's not for everyone. I hope you can make something work for you. I will be glad to answer any other questions you have about the kennels.
