So who gets their dogs groomed at Petsmart?

We are thinking about having Onslow groomed for Christmas. The site tells me the rates but not much else. How long does it take and do your dogs like it? I know they use kennels because I've seen them on trips in the store. Just odn't know how long the dogs stay in them.

This would be our first grooming experience as we just adopted Onslow at the beginning of Nov. He will probably need his mails trimmed since they haven't been trimmed since the day we got him and a basic cut. His hair isn't long but around his paws it seems to be longer.

TIA

I've taken my dog to Petco and I think the set up is the same. Usually when I drop him off I ask how long it will take and leave and come back so he doesn't have to sit in the kennel. Last year around the holidays though they used some special scented shampoo. It smelled really good like a cookie or something but my dog had a reaction to it. Ask them to just use regular shampoo - just in case. He had to take a pill and my mom had to give him baths with medicated shampoo every few days.

The prices are pretty reasonable and they usually do a pretty good job. We just like the dog to look clean - no fancy grooming style or anything. Hope this helps a little!

I have gone to Petsmart in the past for my dog. They did a fairly good job, but when I picked her up they had to cut more around her face as it was still too long. So be specific in what you want. Ask them how long it will take.
Now I take my dog to Country Acres, which is a doggy spa, in my area and they do a cut, bath, nail trim, massage, she gets to play in the play yard and lunch. It's a whole day process. I drop her off in the Am and pick her up in the Pm. She seems so relaxed when she gets home. I would too if I spent the day at a spa. Sad that my dogs gets pampered at the spa all day and I never have.

I used to take my lab there until we moved. I always had great service from them, no complaints. Saturdays usually take the longest, but they're good about giving you an approximate time and will call if they are running earlier/later.

He would get a basic package (top dog? or something like that) and he would get a wash, dry, brush/groom, nails clipped, and a scarf around his neck when done. Sometimes I would do the add-on packages around the holidays and that would include a scented shampoo (apple pie on July 4th, Christmas Cookies at Christmas, etc), ears cleaned, and teeth brushed.

I thought the price was very reasonable and my dog always enjoyed going. I know each location is different, but I hope this helps!

I took our Pom to Pet Smart once and was not happy at all.. After that I found a smaller, more personal groomer - (with awesome rates) that did an excellent job..:thumbsup2

Of course every Pet Smart is different, so I guess the best thing to do would be to give them a try and see what you think..:)

Good luck! :santa:

How old is Onslow? Just asking because you said you adopted him in Nov. Grooming is great and so happy that you have adopted. We also have a rescue dog and I have worked at the local Humane Society. Just be careful taking the dog to a busy place for his first time being groom. He might be still adjusting to his new life & family. I would try to find a smaller/personal grooming place. Someone that could give that extra love, patience & attention while grooming to make the first time extra special. Then he would love to go back to see that person. Our dog does best with a small quiet place where the women just adore him. It is the same people all the time. Petco/Petsmart might have big turnovers with employees. That might sound silly but I think it helps with the salon is operated by one owner and a few groomers.
