I hope the OP is doing okay. I think that if she has read this thread, some of the very accusatory posts here may have made her unwilling to come back and post again. :(

I agree with you, however, to get on over 24 hours and post what she did without any explanation is very confusing and upsetting.

I agree. Actually she hasn't posted in awhile anywhere. I know she got her cruise docs, and she leaves soon, so maybe with the stress of a trip and her dog....

thanks for caring
and for the posts that made me cry
i understand its only your opinoin no harm done
if i post i am fare game
yesterday was very very very hard and hard choices were made
my dog was a snoodle 1 1/4 years old his name was Ben he weight about 50lbs a big baby , my grand kids loved hime as did my dd 17 who is still very depressed
the owners own dog dog bit her
our dog won the fight by far her dog is very tore up i feel for them ,
the vet said they may sue for damages , yeah what ever,,
my dog is dead because they couldnt follow the rules , but.....
my dog was in our fenced back yard and was provoked then got loose
i saw the owner and dog outside and went to see how it was i let her know i am sorry her dog was hurt so much and i knew she loves her dog , she said her dog was quarentied , i know the only reason they do that is if it bites a person.
when i took my dog to the vet he growled at her a few times she tried to get close very out of charator for my pup.
the vet said your dog is young not fixed and she said he was being territoral normal but he went to an extreme to protect . she could not garentee me he would not do it again , and he tasted blood, i can not garentee my dog will never get out again , and if he was hurt a child i would be the reason why , if it was your child my dog hurt next would you think jeese lady if you knew why did you keep the dog the first time?? i have to put people first , we are BIG animal lovers , my other dogs have never behaved in this way noi matter how they were provoked. it was a HARD CHOICE . but i couldnt live with the what if's we said our good byes .. and now he is gone i know many here will think i am heartless and your intitled but God willing let ut family heal in piece
and thanks for all the opinoins and thought s God bless you all

 tears for the poor puppy. so heartbreaking. and I'm still not sure I understand, but good luck to you.

I am sorry that you are going through this, especially when such a happy trip is coming up. Hopefully your family can put some of this sadness behind you and enjoy the opportunity to be together.

Wow, I can't say that I even begin to understand, but I'm not going to come down hard on you since what is done is done. Give your DD a hug from me!

I feel for you and totally understand. I was bit by a friend's dog. No reason I was petting it, squat down next to it and when I went to stand up it just jumped at me. Ended up with over 50 stitches on my face. The only thing we can figure out the house was filled with a lot of people and noise that is wasn't use to.
I am still an animal lover, but the dog was put down. When they took it to the vets it actually also bit the owner. At that point they felt they couldn't trust the dog. And personally I felt they did the right thing. Being bit by a dog is a very tramautic thing. For years I would have just tiny flash backs or even freeze up even if my own dog was barking at me for some unknow reason. Now luckily it is a distant memory. But I have a lot of respect for any dog.
Our neighbor has 2 shepards and a charpee (SP) the one shepard had fought with the little dog many times, need stitches, It is a loving dog but believe me I don't trust it one bit and keep my distance.
No one wants to put a beloved animal down. But I don't think anyone can really understand till they actually deal with a dog who attacked.
So hugs to you and your family.

:grouphug: we had to go thru this when our 10 yr old Rottie bit my DH the next morning the dog growled at my then 2 yr old DD under the kitchen table...we put him down...he had always been a great dog but was territorial to our property & our family...I know what you are going thru It's not easy very tough decision that is very personal to make good luck huckster! hope it gets easier for you & your family

Thanks for the update. Totally understand why you put the dog down. What a hard desicion for you. So sorry :grouphug:

:grouphug:
I remember when I was young my great uncle's dog got off his chain. There was a dog fight and he also got in the hen house at my other uncles. (Several family members lived on a hill within walking distance of each other) At the time i didn't understand why he had to put the dog down. I now know that once a dog tastes blood it could attack again. And as someone said it could be a child it goes after. Homer's dog was the sweetest dog until the fight. Afterwards he wasn't so nice. Homer was heartbroken he had to destroy his best friend. All of us kids were told we couldn't go near him anymore after he was caught. Although it was a hard decision I'm sure, it was the right one, I think.
My heart goes out to you and this really hard decision you had to make. Your DD may not understand right now, but she will eventually. My prayers are with you and your family.

:grouphug: Sorry you are going through this. I just can't help but thinking that your neighbor was at fault in some huge way.

You killed a PUPPY because you were afraid your neighbors MIGHT sue?

Wow. I would have taken my puppy and fought until they tossed me in prison before I'd let them put down my babies...and that would be in a legitamate bite case, which this was not.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry you're going through this but honestly I'm still absolutely baffled and rather unsettled by this. I'm not going to shower you with pixie dust. You have my pity but please give your other dogs away and please do not get any more animals. Ever.

And what vet in his/her right mind puts down a puppy who fought back when it was approached by a strange dog in it's own yard??

So sorry you had to go through this. It must be a nightmare. I'm not quite sure I understood what happened. Did your dog bite the other dog's owner or did she get bit by her own dog? If a dog gets into a fight with another dog it doesn't mean it will automatically feel free to bite humans. One dog we had got into a few "scraps" with other dogs but would never dream of biting a person. Just trying to understand. You don't have to respond if you don't want to and again, so sorry for your loss.

:sad2: Unbelievable. Please follow EsmeraldaX's advice and don't get another pet. IMO anyone who doesn't care enough about their pet to have it up-to-date on shots doesn't need a pet. You had one of the new "designer" dogs, an expensive purchase to not even have basic shots.

I know it's too late now but you should have started with getting him neutered... that would have definitely curbed his territorial behavior. I'm very surprised the vet didn't recommend that.
