dog fight HELP .....BIG UP DATE

From another post of hers on the cruise board it seems that the dog was put to sleep today.

WHY??? My heart skipped when I read this update. First, the OP is upset that Animal Control may take the dog, then 2 hrs later she/he has the dog put down? What the heck?

I'm sorry but this is upsetting. It doesn't make any sense.

Could it be that the dog was put down because the vet found something terrible when they took him in to check on his shots? Or his injuries? (Didn't he get bitten by the neighbor's dog too?)

So she avoids the fight by killing her family pet??? What kind of person does that??

UNless they are showing any outward signs of being rabid, they are put under quarantine, usually for about 10 days to be watched, ESP. if they have never been aggressive before because it is sick and inhumane to take someone's pet and murder it because it bit when you don't know WHY it bit. Generally, if it shows no signs after 10 days, it is released to the owner who may have to pay fines , medical bills etc. and the next time the dog shows aggression they may have to have it put down.

Some dogs really do bite out of fear (ie. being beaten, or tormented, or poked with sticks or jumped on etc.) and they certainly don't deserve to be killed because of it.

Maybe Animal Control came and the dog was vicious? I know the animals here in Atlanta have been put down almost immediatly.....but these were unrestrained animals that attacked people.

I am terribly confused as well. This is what I have to this point: her dog bit another dog, not a person, neither dog was up to date on shots and the offending dog was in her yard (provoking her dog). I guess there are too many facts we don't know as to why the dog was put to sleep.

I know I would have taken my dog somewhere safe and suffered the consequences before I let it be killed over something like this.

Maybe her dog had bit before and was already considered vicious. Still, a dog provoking it, even if it does escape the fence should count for something. I don't understand the "big update" and then the lack of details. Maybe the OP is afraid of getting flamed so she is just staying away.

Maybe it was a Pit Bull and they have a law that considers it a "vicious dog" or something like that?
More that likely she was threatened to be sued and put the dog down for that? My parents did that to my dog when I was small.
It really is sad.
