Dog boarding?

I am unsure what board to post this on.

We have a new dog. He is a larger, 1 year old chihuahua. I have looked into Best Friends Disney boarding. I have some questions. We will arrive very late, like midnight. Can we drop off that late? Make an appointment to do so?

Also, he is new to us. We have had him for 2 months. When we got him, he lived with other dogs and was well adjusted. However, now when he sees other dogs, he goes nuts. I am not sure if he will play well with other dogs as I don't know if he just needs to be turned loose to play or what. I have been afraid to try. I am new to having a dog and still learning. How can I get him used to other dogs again so I can easily let him board and play with other dogs?

Also, what would happen if he gets sick? The website says they will call but that they also have vet techs on staff. I would like to have him somewhere that can help and treat him so that we won't have halt our vacation. We thought boarding him here would allow us to visit during our vacation as well as be nearby in case something did happen, but we also don't want to lose our entire vacation because a boarding place can't handle simple problems. I have never dealt with anything like this before as I am a new dog owner and not used to this sort of thing yet. So, please, be kind as I am open to advice and suggestions. I'm not unwilling to do things, just a novice and may not have thought of it!

Thanks!!

Thanks for any advice and help.

I am not able to help with the questions on Best Friends. But I would suggest (unless it is impossible) boarding your dog with your vet. As a new dog owner, you raise some great questions about illness/emergency & socialization concerns. If your vet boards, it may be the best place for your dog. Best of luck & welcome to doggy ownership!

In all our trips to WDW, we have boarded our pets at our vets. They have various levels of boarding that include playtime. Some even have video cameras in the area so the owner can check them out online. And it never fails, one of our pets usually has a medical need while they are being boarded. With the vet right there (and they know us pretty good now), it makes it easy to care for our pet.

I have used the best friends here in MA not the one in Disney and my dog loves it. You can choose for her/him to have activities like walk, play time, book reading etc or have the stay an play where she will be with the other dogs. Since we adopted our dog at age 5 we were not sure how she would do with so many dogs so we told them our worries and they said they would introduce her to the group play an keep an eye on her to see how she did. If she did not good they would put her in her "suite" and do the activities with her.
Also about the vet you sign an amount of money you are comfortable with them going ahead of spending in the vet in case of emergency. That way they can go ahead and do what it needs to be done if needed. Otherwise they will can you and ask what you would like to do.
You can watch your dog too!!! I am a crazy mama and would watch her playing whenever I had a chance.
Again this is my experience Una different best friend location but I believe they will be all very similar.
I would call them about your concerns so you feel better about making the decision.
