Dog blood in stool question

My parents are out of town and I am taking care of their 6 year old poodle for them. I just got to their house to take her outside and she has had bloody dirarreah all over the house. I called my mom and she was just like oh well i don't know what to do. I don't want her to die or anything, is this serious does anyone know????

Well it's bright red, not dark. I was reading on the internet that the bright red might not be serious.

I watched my sister's dog and it ended up having parvo. The bloody stool is a symtom.
It almost killed it.

Probably some kind of colitis. Take a stool sample to the vet when you bring the dog in.

This happened to my dog once when i first got him. The vet did an x-ray and $250 later diagnosed him with an "upset intestine". He figures the dog must have eaten something he shouldn't have. He gave us some bland dog food and sent us on our merry way. Needless to say, i was pretty freaked out but it turned out to be mild. Best to go to the vet though. Hopefully it's nothing major.

This used to happen to our dog whenever my wife went out of town. First time it happened I called the vet and they asked me if anything about the dogs life was "different" right now. I said yes, his mother is out of town....lol. They said it was normal to have this kind of intestinal problem was not unusual under the circumstances.

This happens to my cat sometimes. After looking around on the internet at possible causes, I felt like if he wasn't acting sick (which he wasn't at all), I'd just watch it and take him in if it ever gets persistent. So far no problems.

Then again, if it's all over the house I might be a little more worried!

I would call the vet, just to be sure...but I have had a couple of dogs who did this every now and then just because (guess they had an upset tummy). It freaked me out the first couple of times, but now I just keep an eye on them for a few days afterwards.

I wouldn't mess around with bloody stool. It could be something or it could be nothing. Get the pup to the vet.

i wouldn't take a chance with someone else's dog, that's for sure. Bloody diarrhea is abnormal and can be dangerous. If your child were having bloody diarrhea, would you have him examined? sure you would.

The problem is, that if it continues, a small dog like that can lose a lot of blood and fluids in a short period of time. At that point the dog might need hospitalization for IV fluids and/or blood transfusions. Why let it get to that point? A vet can explore the cause and tell you what you need to do to stop it before it causes bigger problems.
