Doesn't seem as crowded as I expected here at BCV

This is our first trip home during the Christmas holiday and I was pretty prepared to have to go elbow to elbow with crowds. But since we arrived on Sunday, the 21st, I'm surprised to see far fewer people than I had expected! Of course, we did stay away from the parks today, but even so...it hasn't been crowded at Stormalong Bay, I didn't think it was unbearable at Epcot yesterday and the crowd was "comfortable" at Narcoossee's for our dinner today.

My husband did talk to one bartender who said the Yacht Club is at 30% capacity, Beach Club Resort is at 40% and BCV is at 70%.

I'm wondering...will the next few days see the crowds grow?

Really?...surely the bartender is mistaken??...BCV only 70% full during christmas week!!...So I could have called last week and got a room for christmas day??
Everything I read on here tells me that you really need to call and book your home resort for christmas week at 11 months.

And YC only 30%??...again..I thought this was the busiest week of the year:scared1:

I think the bartender must have been drinking the stock!

I think it may be that some people cancelled their plans to come down here as the economy took a dive. I know that several months ago, I was talking to a woman who works at our elementary school and she was talking about their Christmas trip to Disney. My husband ran into her last week and she said they had cancelled their trip. I work in the auto industry and the thought crossed my mind as well but since ours had already been paid for, I decided we were going anyway. I might only have a job for another month or two but I wasn't going to let the thought of it spoil our Christmas this year.

I do feel badly for anyone who might have had to cancel their trips but I think that might be why the crowds are a bit lighter.

One thing our server did tell us at Narcoossee's is that they had been having a lot of "no shows" which happens when the weather is nicer and people end up staying at the parks longer.

We're off to Hollywood Studios later today and the forecast is for clear skies and 82 so bet the everyone will be out enjoying it.

I would question the bartender having knowledge of these occupancy rates at any given time. The boat captains have always been notorious for giving out rumors and incorrect information as well..

Seeing as there were huge waiting lists at the DVC resorts for Christmas, I find it very difficult to believe BCV would be down so low.

Theme Park Boards should be able to provide attendance information for yesterday and which parks may have closed due to crowds...will have to check over there later for more info.

Sounds like you are enjoying your vacation over the holidays for sure!!

We were at BCV Dec 16-19th and agree that it seemed very slow. However when we checked in the front desk had told us that they were at full occupancy. SAB was also very quiet but I don't think that people really plan on much pool time in December since the weather can be so iffy. I know that we didn't plan on swimming but were able to enjoy one morning anyway. And if the Lobby and MarketPlace were any indication in the evenings then the people were definitely there!

We just left the BWV on Monday. On the 20th it took us over 20 mins to walk from the front of the Crystal Palace to Caseys because the MK was so crowded at night and there was no movement. The 19th the crowds weren't that bad so it seemed like it really picked up for the last weekend leading into Christmas. I've been down there at least 5 times in early to mid Dec and the crowds seemed about the same to maybe slightly more crowded than some times in the past. I remember the parks being deserted in early Dec years ago. I think those days might be over regardless of the economy.

Don't know about the BCV, but a few times I was at the front desk during our stay it seemed as if there were problems with getting a few people into the category or size of room that they had reserved. Just a guess, but that wouldn't be an issue if the BWVs were running at 70%. And this was prior to Christmas week.

We'll be there to join you in a few days--3 more. :lmao: :lmao:
