Does your school district have off on Pulaski Day??

Just wondering. It falls on the first monday of March. I work for and my kids go to Chicago Public Schools and we have off on March 6th for Pulaski Day. So I was wondering if others did too?? (also thinking about a quick weekend trip somewhere..... maybe WDW??? )

So just checking to see who has off that weekend.

Nope. I've never heard of it. No place I've ever lived has had that day off. Sounds like a Chicago area only holiday.

On a slightly different note, my kids don't have President's Day off here in Tampa, which kind of surprised me. Anyone elses?

I've got it off, but I don't think it's always been that way. I want to say we haven't always had it off, but I'm not sure.

What is Pulaski Day?
We have February Vacation the week of President's day- so my kids are off.

Casimir Pulaski Day Link


Casimir Pulaski was the "Father of American Cavalry". He helped George Washington and the contential congress. It is Pulaski day the first monday in march (and there are a lot of parades)

He was a polish imigrant, and since Chicago has a Large Polish population, maybe that is why we get it off.



(I know we get a day off for him, but I don't know too much)


we also get next monday for lincolns birthday and the following monday for presidents day too.

and they wonder why our test scores are so low

Never heard of it. When we lived in Kissimmee we didn't get off for President's Day but were off the Friday before for Rodeo Day. Yes, every year when the county fair is in town, the kids are off of school to go to the rodeo.

Since I live in Chicago, DD has it off. We also get President's Day and Lincoln's Birthday off.

I just looked at the school calander, the kids get off 3 Monday's out of 4 because of these holidays.

I live in NY...never heard of pulaski day...............they do get off for Brooklyn/Queens day in the queens schools though!

Pulaski day is not a 'Chicago" holiday, its an Illinois Holiday so designated by Gov. Big Jim to appease the Polish voters a decade ago.

That's true but it has been more then a decade, since the mid 1980's.

thats why we are looking for a weekend trip somewhere...

since early march is usually not too busy in many places.... probably a road trip somewhere.....

No, no Pulaski day in Georgia, but we are scheduled for (are you ready?) CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY on April 24. Yup, that's right, it's a state holiday.

Hey, hold on to the flames! My office, on principal, works on that day anyway (and we're state employees, for the most part.) We DO take MLK day off though (in January).
