The bringing in a new cat thread reminded me of this...

Have you ever held your pet up to a mirror? How did s/he react?

My sister's cat, Janey, attacks the cat in the mirror. All the other cats don't seem to care that there's another cat there. Though I think Tycho knows it's him in the mirror - he likes to sit in front of it and watch himself as he cleans.

My cat will paw and paw and paw at the "other kitty" in the bathroom mirror. I tell her that kitty is trapped, and that it wants out of there and she should get it out.

coco, the old wench cat she hasnt played with the cat in the mirror since she figured out it was her,, but she does groom in front oif it,, she broke a mirror trying to get the other kitty when shewas younger:) shadow hasnt discovered the mirror yet, hes seen it,,but he has a twin brother and i think he thinks the other kitty is the one we call brother kitty and they are playing through a window

My Lab loves to look at himself in the mirror. He stands on the sofa on his hind legs, props his front legs on the top of the back of the sofa and stares into the mirror as if he is looking at the most beautiful dog in the world (and of course I think he is). He turns his head from side to side, the whole time looking out the corners of his eyes, never taking his eyes off himself. He even wags his tail sometimes. If I "suddenly appear" in the mirror, he gets all freaked out and jumps down, then runs over to me wagging his tail, acting as if he was just caught with his paw in the cookie jar.

Our cat Kipper just saw himself for the first time last week. It was great! I bought a mirror for the bedroom and leaned it on the wall until DH can put it up (still waiting on that to happen). Kipper walked into the room, did this double take and started hissing at his reflection. Then he walked sideways toward it (growling) and ran right into it. He's never seen another cat (total inside cat) and still hasn't figured out there is no cat there. He keeps walking around the back of it.

We have 3 cats and none of them are phased by mirrors, but they love to chase the red light from the lazer pointer. It drives them nuts and it is sooooo funny to watch.

Does anyone have a cat that you spoil with lots of expensive new toys for every special occasion, but they would rather play with the ring from the milk gallon? We have learned our lesson.

Yep! I bought the boys some nice pads to lie on for Christmas, and they were fascinated by the box the pads came in. I think I still have the pic... Yep!

It's a box, oh a box, Momma we love the box!

LOL! Too funny! That has happened to us many times. We buy something we think our cats will love and they end up liking the packaging it came in better.

Each of our cats has their own kitty bed, but wouldn't you know they would rather anywhere but in their beds, including the hardwood floors.

Oh well, we still gotta love our furbabies!

Mac never had a big deal with the mirror, since he was around other Scots as a pupling. But hubby bought me a curio cabinet and he freaked out about the Scottie in the glass. It was a subtle reflection and he would bark and nose the glass and howl every time he walked by it for months. Tipper, my rescue, will turn her head away when she is held up to a mirror. She wants to make sure that Mommy still is really with her. She is a Piglet in puppy clothes.

My poodle Petey won't even look straight in to the mirror. I'm not sure what's up with that except maybe he is being submissive to the "other" doggie!

I've spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on expensive and fun toys from Petsmart. He'd play with them for a little bit and that was it. One day at the dollar store I saw this little squeaky banana and bought it. It's his favorite toy ever. He even brings it to bed EVERY night. I bought a baby teething toy at a yard sale for a quarter. He LOVES that too. Yup, no more expensive toys for him!

My late dog Pepper used to growl and bark at the mirror LOL . . .

until she realized that she was growling and barking at herself

My dog has never been fazed by the mirroe, but he almost had a stroke when I put a Springer Spaniel decal on our storm door. He would run up to it and bark and carry on like it was a real dog! It was actually kind of funny to watch.
