I am always home with Jamie, She is now retired and we do not take her anymore to public place's! She has adjusted well to not being a working/service dog, and is enjoying a Great Life.

She knows when I am going to be leaving and it is just terrible. She gets so upset, cries, whines. etc. She goes to the basement door and has a fit for me to get her leash and harness! She does have the run of the house alone and never touches one thing!

I feel bad whenever I have to leave her! Does your pet do any of this stuff? When I get home this kid goes nut's! You would think that Santa had came! :goodvibes

Oh yes! Spencer gets so upset when I go away. When we bring down the suitcases to start packing, he will hide and usually when we are away he gets sick. :guilty: Kirby on the other hand, he LOVES when we go away

Dot used to be terrible. I would have to chase her about the house to catch her to put her in her room before we leave. Now I just have to say 'go to your place' and she goes. Of course she gets a nice cookie treat :) That has helped lots :dog2: She still doesn't like it though. She puts her ears down and sulks. sad.
Poor thing. When we left for 4 days this summer and took her to the kennel she didn't eat much at all the whole time we were gone (lost the 3# the vet had been harping that she needed to loose!! LOL). She was sure happy to see us when we got back. Next time we go away she is staying with my sister.
They sure are funny aren't they?
She gets really depressed when DH leaves without her. She loves to ride 'around the block' with him- we live in the country and they go for a ride every night around dusk looking for deer.

One of our cats has a fear of abandonment. He starts to cry if you go into another room and he can't find you. If you go to the bathroom/shower he will sit outside the door and meow until you come out. The second we come home he wants to be picked up and carried around. He's like a baby, I've never had a cat who loved to be held so much.

My ally gets upset. I have a pciture of her in the suitcase. This year my father passed away so my brother came to feed her...she is not used to my brother so she didn't eat for him, the poor baby she missed he mommy, now she is happy I am home

Ok, now the weirdo dog is hunting a mouse... LOL. she LOVES to hunt mice. Caught her first one outside when she was 12 weeks old. She caught 2 in the KITCHEN just after that (We live in the country in an OLD farmhouse). She has spotted one in the LR today and is chasing it between the chairs... LOL. It is sooo funny to watch. Poor thing is probably scared to death!!!( wait, that would be a GOOD THING RIGHT???). :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
This dog is the craziest animal I have ever had.
:goodvibes

LOL!! SHE Got the mouse!!! Tooo funny! Grabs it with her teeth and that's it.

Petey is fine until I actually close the door. Then he barks like crazy as if to say "Mommy, you forgot me, come back!!!!" If I go to the mail box or dumpster I leave the door open thinking he'll realize I'm coming right back but it doesn't usually work.

Miss Puggles cries when we leave. She makes us feel terrible. :pug: The cats don't seem to mind.

Nope :guilty: Our dog and cat see us getting ready to leave and they swarm around the pantry door where their treats are kept because they know they get one when we leave. Sometimes Murphy will start barking at us because we aren't moving fast enough and he wants his treat.

He usually gets a little upset when he sees the suitcases come out, but my parents usually watch him when we are away and he loves it there. In fact, he is happy to see us, but a bit depressed when we get home. I don't think that Lilly (cat) quite knows what the suitcases mean yet, but she is a love bug to whoever comes to take care of her and to us when we return.

Our pug hates to be left. When she was a puppy we found the trick. We bought a treat ball. Milkbone goes in when we leave and she no longer cares that we're leaving the house without her. Before that she used to scratch and paw away and whine.

Much easier this way.

Yep our blue crown conure get very upset when he knows we are leaving. He knows that means that he will be locked into his cage for several days. We don't even bring the suitcases into the living room until we are ready to put them in the car.

Then when we get back he's mad. He won't take treats from anyone. Won't talk to you. He even tried relieving himself on my dh's head once!! :rotfl:

Our cockatiel doesn't have a clue. All he knows is that he gets a yummy honey seed stick.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Our Boxers do the exact same thing! They're crate trained, so before we leave, we tell them to "Go to bed" and they run first to the kitchen, to make sure we are getting their treats, then they tear through the apartment and dive into their beds like a couple of maniacs. If we're not quick enough, they run back and forth from their beds to the kitchen snorting and howling until they get that treat!

They don't mind when we go away for long periods that much either, as they get to go upstate to "camp" which they love! Fresh air and 24 hour access to the great outdoors, they love it.

Of course, when we get home, either from a quick trip to the store, or a 2 week Disney vacation, they are always wildly happy to see us. That canine "hello" when you get home has got to be in the top 3 greatest things about dog ownership!

Minky does fine when we leave to run an errand, but if he sees suitcase he sets to whining. He loves to ride in the car and he loves to go to the vet(which is where we board him) so before we start packing I usually take him for a ride. He races to the car and gets so excited at the vet--until he realizes that I'm not staying. Then I have a 75lb poodle in my lap, with all the crying and licking too. he just about knocks me down when I go back to pick him up. :dog2:

This is something that I'm having a real difficult time handling! My little Tito is so sad whenever I leave. If I go away overnight or longer, he becomes very distraught. My kids, young adults who take care of him in my home when we're gone, tell me he will sit on the table in the living room for hours looking out the window waiting for me to come home, and will even start to howl. He's a little 8 lb sweet Chihuahua. It makes me feel so bad. The last vacation I took (January 2005) I had a very hard time relaxing and having fun because I felt so bad about leaving my little doggy home. I'm really not sure what to do to make the situation better. :paw:

I read in a dog behavior book that because dogs are pack animals, it stresses them to be separated from their "pack", which of course we are apart of. Some dogs handle it better than others, especialy those that feel that the human in question is the head of the pack. When the dog feels that THEY are the alpha "dog" then they can get REALLY upset, because they feel it's their job to "protect" the lower members of the pack, and how can they do that when they get left behind! The book is called "The Dog Listener", sorry I can't remember the name of the author.

Thankfully my dog, Dartagnon( A German Shepard), does fine when I leave him. We have a wonderful kennel and really seems to enjoy his time there, I think they spoil him because he's so well behaved.

Fergie sits on my suitcase and cries. I think it's just a guilt trip because she knows she's not going. Then, when I get back, she follows me around and brings me gifts -- socks from the laundry basket, sometimes money (she's an indoor cat, so it's really just a regift -- unless she does something on the side when I go to work everyday).

Diana is very emotional too, some crying and guilt, but not like Fergie.
