DH is being asked to stay after work tomorrow for a company trivia night. Just a couple of weeks ago there was an after work company picnic (families not invited). DH works very hard and puts way more than 40 hours per week into his work. We also have two small children who go to bed no later than 2 hours after he gets home every night. He's coming up with an excuse to get out of it. But seriously, this is silly. If you're going to do things like this for your employees fine, but you need to make it completely optional. He should just be able to say no not have to come up with an excuse (although we do have a good one). Grrrrrr

(For hubbies company)...nope..it is all voluntary. Some of the large events, mgmt will be required as they help put on the event (like the annual children's christmas party or the employee appreciation thing they do at the stadium). But attendance for those not actually putting on the event is voluntary.

We did when my ex was in the military. We called it "mandatory fun." :teeth:

But, no, I haven't had any after-hours events be required in any other job I've had.

when my DH is in managment and on salary he was. It was just part of the job.

Yes he did all the time when he worked for a major company.

My DH is in management too, and it's part of his job. He also has to "volunteer" with certain charities. Since when is it volunteering if it's mandatory?

no but we get "extra" on our evals if we participate in cancer walks, health expos, etc.
some employees couldnt care less since it means giving up a saturday.
