Does your home region influence your DVC home choice?

Interesting theory! We bought at BWV and BCV, but truly love the feel of OKW, and should have bought there when we had the chance!! We stayed at VWL when they opened for 5 nights, and it was a LONGGGGGG 5 nights, believe me!. I hated it, because I live in Northern Michigan, and that's what home looks like, except that no one was driving around the parking lot with a dead deer tied to the roof of their cars:p It wasn't until last Christmas that I could begin to appreciate the beauty of VWL.:)

I agree with your theory, not only at DVC resorts, but hotel selection in general. First time I visited BCV last year, one reason I loved it was it made me nostalgic for Cape Cod (although as Samantha Brown says, "I don't remember palm trees") which I've moved away from and no longer get to visit. But it's funny, 10 years ago, when I did live up near Cape Cod and visited there regularly, I went over to see the (then new) Y&B and had no interest in it! Also, hotels in general-I live very near the Mexican border and so I have no interest in Coronado Springs-too much like home now. Who knows-maybe in 10 years, if DVC builds a resort themed like CS, I'll love it!

We live in an ocean community and love the beach. The first time we stayed at the Yacht Club several years ago we fell in love with the area. When we were finally ready to purchase DVC we heard they would soon be selling BCV so it was perfect fit and timing for us. Annmarie

We liked BCV because of the location and atmosphere (walking distance to Epcot, SAB and laidback). The Yacht Club is more like home and the BC pre-DVC was always our preference.. I suppose BCV could be more like home in the food choices, but I don't appreciate those either as I'm allergic to seafood. LOL! Now, if Epcot was located by VWL we'd have a real dilemma. I think the theme there is spectacular but it's just not our thing.. but if Epcot were there I'd have considered it. I'd just bring some sand and swirl around the VWL pool like I was in the tidal wave pool at SAB. ;)

We live in an area that looks just like VWL. Dh did not want to add on there for that reason. Even though I hate the 9 months of winter we have, there is just something so beautiful, homey, and cozy about WL that I had to add on. Also, I have always wanted to live in a log home. We also own at BWV for DH and it is for location but also for the contrast to home. Truthfully I think he likes BW so he can look at Y&BC. We will be at BC for the first time ever in a few months, I wonder how we will feel after that experience.

Great thread!!

I have another theory. Other than OKW, I think people like to buy near where they used to stay.

For us, we fell in love with WL...so buying VWL was a no brainer!!

We live in St. Louis...so nothing at WDW reminds us of that!!!

We'd fall under this category and if there was a monorail DVC we'd buy it in a heartbeat!

I live in a typical New England small town, so there's nothing in the DVC "repetoire" that really resembles it...maybe SS will abe about the closest in similarity once it is built. I have 2 contracts at OKW, mainly because of the money, but also because being somewhere with that "beachy, tropical" theme makes it seem to me like I really AM on vacation.

I would imagine that if you lived in the Pacific Northwest that VWL might not be your first choice, based on the similarity to your usual surroundings.

I do recall a poster a long time ago mentioning that she did not liek to stay at Coronado Springs because she lived in Arizona and the theme was too similar to her real life!

We live on Cape Cod (so we are surrounded by beaches) and we own at BCV and BWV. Living here you really only get to use the beaches for about 4 months a year, so it is great to go somewhere beachy on vacation. We love the BWV for the same reasons as Jennybobenny mentioned in her post. We like how close everything is, the stores, the restaurants. It is it's own little community. Also being able to walk to Epcot and MGM is HUGE.

Cheyita... Great post.

We are also in Illinois, but the central part of the state. When you live here, you can see why people once thought the world was flat! Nothing but corn and soybean fields as far as the eye can see.

My wife insisted we have something "Florida-ish" too. So our home resort, Beach Club Villas, fits that bill. I love all of the DVC resorts. But my spouse will NEVER stay at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. She says, "too woodsy." Yet I like it.

It will be interesting to see what she thinks of Saratoga Springs!?

We live in a typical, new suburban neighborhood 15 miles outside D.C. , so almost everything is different from home. We really didn't think about the theming when we bought. If we really had, we probably would have tried an OKW resale since we love Key West (well, one of us does), but then we used to reside in Florida, so that may have been a case of been there, lived that. The location of BCV was what really attracted us. We used to stay at the Swan and loved the proximity to Epcot and the Boardwalk. We really like the thought of being able to eat ourselves silly at the Food and Wine Festival and then roll home through the International Gateway. :D

We own at OKW because we like going in January and it has the Florida feel. Even if the temps are low, just looking at the palm trees and lush vegetation makes it feel warm. Also living in NJ, the boardwalk is nothing special, and with life in the northeast so hectic it is just such a relaxing resort. The laid back feeling was also why we decided to buy at HHI.

We own at VWL and its is very similar to our "REAL" home.We live just south of the Adirondacks and we knew the minute we walked into the WL we were "home".I guess for us we wanted that feeling you get when you just know something fits.We have tried OKW(loved the size!)and BCV(enjoyed being close to Epcot but did not like the atmosphere)and we are trying BWV for the first 3 nights of our 14 day stay Oct-Nov(the rest at VWL and Royal Pacific Resort at Universal). My husband though did live most of his life in Saratoga Springs(we now live about 15 min.away)and is very interested in how that turns out.He already plans on staying there as soon as we can.

We live just east of New Orleans and wanted to be away from activity so we chose OKW over BWV.

We have stayed at VWL and BCV and loved the change, but OKW is our vacation relaxation. Looking forward to SSR.
