Does your dog do this? What do you think it means?

Our 2 1/2 yr old male dog does the funniest thing when we are going to the bathroom. If you don't completely close the bathroom door when you are needing to use the toilet, he pushes open the door and is so excited, comes running in, tail wagging and then puts himself between our legs while on the toilet!:rotfl: If I home alone, I tend not to shut the bathroom door and he does this all the time. Do your dogs do this? I would really love to have a dog behaviorist (sp?) tell me what they think. My impression is he is "protecting" us. It is like we are vunerable and he is "protecting" his family. The thing that cracks me up, is he SO excited to do this, wagging his tail at a 100mph and running through the door as fast as he can. It's like it's his job and he actually whines if you do shut the bathroom door. He only does it when we are using the toilet. If we are in the bathroom for other reasons he doesn't do this. I've never owned a dog who does this. Anyone else have a dog who does this?

Both of my Poms seem to think it is necessary that they accompany me to the bathroom. I've decided that they think that if they don't I will spontaniously combust and never come out.

My Yorkie doesn't do that, but she comes into the bathroom everytime I go in because she wants me to give her an empty toliet paper roll to chew on.

The part that really cracks me up is he must place himself between my legs and then he turns & looks up at me like he is trying to say "see aren't I a good doggie."

I think my dogs are all voyeurs and are thinking "...ha! If you get to spy on me doing my business, then I get to spy on you!" Mine won't push the door open, but if it is closed, they will sit very obediently on the other side of the door, patiently awaiting our return to civilization. :rotfl:

I think that some pets do not like to be away from you. They know that sometimes you close the door and they better hightale it in there before you do! They probably wonder what the heck you do in there, then they see you and think; "what the heck is wrong w/ you, I do my buisness in front of everyone!":rotfl2:

My min. schnauzer does this too!! He is soooo excited to jump up on me when I am on the toilet??

My dog hates to come into the bathroom with me. When he was a puppy, I didn't trust him alone if I needed to spend a few minutes sitting down, kwim? So I used to toss him in the bathtub while I was otherwise occupied and the poor boy developed an incredible aversion to standard human potty scent.

::dons my SuperPooper cape:: Yes, I have the ability to revolt my dog. :lmao:

I have cats and they do this as well. I think they have decided that this is the only way they get our undivided attention. Cause basically, what else are we going to do while sitting on the can. Might as well scratch them behind the ears.:lmao:

My Chihuahuas do this, too. I think it's because they are making sure I am potty trained and I am "hitting the right spot" like I expect them to do. :rotfl2:

Yes, especially one of them! The older one likes to sit right between my legs, which can make things rather difficult because she's big. I used to be able to push her away with my feet, but now that she's got hip displaysia, I'm afraid of hurting her so I just tolerate it. The younger one follows me in, but she's too busy sniffing around to sit still while I do my business.

Just be glad he doesn't use your pants as a hammock.

Now there's an image! :lmao:

My Jack Russell does it, I think it's because he knows that we aren't going anywhere for a few minutes and he want's some rubbing.

My Lab also feels the need to be in the bathroom with me. If the door is closed he will sit outside it and bang his head on the door until you let him in, when I get out of the shower he is right there laying in front of the tub

My Chihuhuahas do this too and they also think when u are in the tub that they need to drink the water. I guess they like the smell of the bath products and think it will taste good.:lmao: If you are in the bathroom and close the door they eill try their best to get in or cry till someone opens the door for them. I just wish they would start using the potty there too and not need potty pads.:rotfl2:

We have a small space between the floor and the bathroom door. Our dog used to push a toy under the door and I would push it back for her. She is old now and doesn't do it anymore but everytime I would go in to use the bathroom I would hear her run and get a toy. :goodvibes

I dog sit my ex husbands dog and she comes into the bathroom also. :rotfl::rotfl:

Q will run in and say Hi, then leave.

Fred likes to, uh... lets just say.. verify my identity... the same way they smell where dogs have left a scent, outside.

Mikeeee

Mine come in, say hi, then turn and leave... leaving the door wide open to the world.
