Does your children have the same musical taste as you?

I'm asking this because I don't know.


I'm not sure if my son just doens't like popular music, or just doens't hear it.

I hear him singing the other day .... and it was the lyrics to the Ramones! I have Blitzkrieg Bop on a CD, and here he was saying "Hey ho.. lets go," , and some more attempted lyrics from the song...

DD sings Blondie, OMD and Adam Ant!

My son loves popular music! He trains me on what to like, LOL!

At his summer camp, many of the counselors were teenagers, and they kept the radio on the top 40 stations a good part of the day. DS loved it. He can sing "Complicated" and "Soak Up the Sun" word for word.

So if I put on a Led Zeppelin or U2 CD, he complains about having to listen to "old people's music." Isn't that funny!

I like some of the same stuff as my mom and suprisingly when I was younger we used to listen to the same radio station... that was geared towards the "younger" generation. But I have Steve Miller, The Doors, Jimmy Buffet and all sorts of "older" stuff in my car.

LoL! I grew up singing Johnny Mathis with my sister and Mahalia Jackson with my Mom!

Then I became a teenager and started liking what THEY hated!

I know this will happen with Michael. Right now he listens to and prefers what I listen to, which is mostly lite rock, R&B from the 70s and 80s and praise music.

Like myself he's a big lyrics person so I have to be careful of the lyrics he DOES here!

My kids love to listen to my kind of music. However, my dd has grown quite attached to country music. She did like the boy bands and Britney and Christina, but she's evolving away from them. My ds likes country a little, but he prefers to listen to Don McLean, Queen, anything with a good guitar riff and a solid drum beat.

So far they do. DS 5 likes Dylan, Marley, Buckwheat Zydeco and of course, the Wiggles.

DD 1 Susan likes the Wiggles too, and right now she's squealing and clapping listening to the new Peetah Gabriel.

I think kids, whether they would ever admit it or not, grow up liking the stuff they hear as a kid. Sure, they will find their own favorite styles, but the "old stuff" will be special to them.

Shh! DD is only 8 and she thinks there is only Disney music, Beach Boys, & James Taylor.

Well, I'm sorta kidding. She isn't interested in music much. Maybe it comes from not being around older siblings.
