My 5yr old son has a Kindle fire and at first we really liked it but now given his choice he would play with my DDs touch or watch videos on the iPad. Kindle is 3rd choice. Also we are on our third Kindle Fire. 2 of them just quit charging, total PIA even though Amazon Customer Service was great with replacing them.

). I know many small kids that have them in elementary school...but we wont do that. The Ipod Touch is only a bit more expensive than some Leapad type products. For $30 more, I can get something that dd will be able to use for quite a long time. This is not an item to "keep her entertained" when we are out, but it is useful for that. My dd isnt a coloring kid and thats ok. Not everyone likes to color
We generally spend about $150 per kid (3 gifts total) for Christmas (we have 4 kids) and youngest dd has never gotten anything big or expensive. We usually end up spending about $50 on her as the things she wants are quite a bit less costly. She is very careful and takes very good care of her things and I think that this is a good gift for her. Something she will use and enjoy for a long time.
