Does wide right work at all if....

you get to the gates only 5-10 minutes before rope drop? Not looking to be front of the line, but do you think I could get a 20 minutes or less wait if we do that?

From my one experience with the wide right and coming in later, not really.
I was in a good position.. and for the most part, people were nice and calm.. we had a very rude woman pushing me and my son, and then she pushed pass us and weaved her way through..
Anyway.. the line stopped moving at Flo's. We didnt wait , we got a fast past and went on Maters.. and the tire ride and shopped and came back for the ride later...

that was last April.. every one is going to have a different experience , I guess it would depend on the time of year..

Was it during the Easter break? Or does that not even matter because the early DCA crowd is always huge? We are going Mid-May.

Just the other day, when DCA did not have EMH we arrived about 10 minutes before rope drop - we went on Soarin first thing then we went and had a leasurely breakfast at Flo's. So by the time we made our way to RSR it would have been likely close to an hour past opening and we walked on to the ride by using single rider (my DH and my DS actually rode together, beside each other even). The standby line was only 40 minutes at this point so I can't imagine it would have been awful had we headed straight there at rope drop.

Now, this was on a Thursday when crowds were lower than normal so it does depend on when you are going.
