Does where you are going to eat "consume" you while at WDW?

It seems like the entire time we are at WDW we are engrossed in where we are going to eat. I'm beginning to think we are a little strange. My husband, who couldn't care less, says I am eating breakfast worrying about where I am going to have lunch. I just assume that it is because I am in food paradise there and there are so many wonderful places and desserts to choose from. I'll admit that just the thought of not having to grocery shop, cook or clean up for 10 days is and of itself enough to throw me into delerium but I was wondering if this is as common with everyone else as it is with our family?

It can ;)

Reminds me when I "commando" planned all meals 10 years ago when my sister & I took my 75 y.o. mother on her 1st trip to WDW (it was early December & I wanted to visit as many resorts as possible during the week to see all the xmas decorations).

Just like you said: during breakfast, she was asking about our plans for lunch and dinner - we still tease her about it.

I DO look forward to planning some "new" experiences each trip - next Tuesday will be my first time at V&A (which my DH has taken to calling "Fat Albert's" upon hearing how many courses we will be consuming ;) ).

I won't say it consumes us. I lay out our trip well in advance so everything is all decided. First I lay out my week for travel and where I am staying. Next, I decide which days I am in which parks. THEN I decide which restaurants are convenient to where we are and make a selection. At the appropriate date I make my priority seating arrangements. After that I am all set. No worries about where to eat. It has all been taken care of. Just check my schedule every day and off I go. No worries because I did my homework in advance.

Were I to wait until I got there and each day have to figure out where we would eat, I would go nuts, and, yes it would take up much thought time. My way, never a thought once we are there.

No we never plan on eating anywhere in particular, when we get hungry we just pick a place and enjoy. Except and this is a big except I always insist on eating at Planet Hollywood at least once while we are there.

I'm am teeheeing reading this. I am one of the few that loses weight while on vacation at WDW. I just am too busy to stop and eat half the time. However, I can remember one time when we had my parents with us and I would ask what they would like to eat and they would say the same thing every time. Wherever you would like is fine. We would pick someplace and the next question would be is the big meal or the little meal? It drove us nuts because we kept explaining to him that he could make it whatever meal he wanted. Eat a lot or eat a little, that's the wonderful part about restaurants in Disney. There is something for everyone everywhere!

While this trip has plenty of PS's already set and some still in the works, I would not say that we think that much about the food. We enjoy our meals, but rarely do we dwell on them. Mickey

Yes, the meal planning can sabatoge your trip

(ie) In MK the Fudge looked really, really good in the window... but... .. I had a lunch PS at The Plaza so didn't partake in the fudge. :(

Same thing happened over and over... skipping things you would like to have.. like an ice cream etc.. saving yourself for later.

Next time I go I think I will "wing it" a bit more...

I also noticed as I did not wear a watch and forgot to bring my cell with me to the parks I was constantly asking people the time, so I could leave for our PS...

Good Question :p

When we (mostly me) started planning for this trip, I think I was going a little overboard planning mostly from reading these boards---there's just sooo much information. Then I slowed down and I decided to plan just a few special meals like the night before we go onsite we're doing hoop de doo, first night we're doing Chef Mickey's (our favorite last trip) and the castle breakfast on Sunday morning after early entry (we didn't know about making reservations ahead of time last time and dd's really wanted to eat there). We bought a bunch of Q&C vouchers since we're staying at YC we're hoping to use the vouchers in the parks and at beaches & cream, plus some lunch vouchers to use the days we're at AK for RFC (we love this place too!) and at Yachtman Steak House since it's close too. I'm hoping the vouchers work out great for winging it and just getting a quick meal and last minute PS when we don't want to spend a lot of time planning. Still trying to decide if it's worth it to do Fantasmic at the end of October/beg. of Nov.

With us, meals (especilly dinner) are the highlight of our trip. So we always make our PS well in advance, since we have a good idea of what we're going to be doing in the parks, etc each day.
So I guess if we're "consumed" it's at home, figuring out which 7 restaurants we'll visit the next trip!

I had to smile when I read this. My sister, her DH, my DH and I are going next week. My sister and I are always talking about what we are going to eat. In fact, someone said to us "It's all about food, isn't it?" LOL There are lots of things we enjoy and look forward to such as the mashed potatoes from Cosmic Ray's; cheesecake from the French bakery in Epcot; hot dogs from Casey's. Those are just a few examples. We are thin and while we don't lose weight, we don't gain any weight either while there. We have a great time stopping here and there and eating what we like in DW.

Before our trip in '99, I had 2 PS's a day for a week all planned and charted ;) . We did enjoy that trip (and ate well!). Last Dec., was our next trip and I had at least one PS a day planned. This Dec. we are so much more laid back. I had the kids each pick one meal. DD3 picked Cinderellas breakfast (couldn't believe she remembered this from last year, perhaps it's because of pictures and video?:p ) and DS6 was trying to decide between Donalds, Chef Mickeys or San Angel Inn, lol! In the end, DS chose San Angel Inn  for his pick. Boma for my DH. That's it. Least amount of PS's since our honeymoon in '94! Should be our best trip yet :D

Most trips, when I travel with family and/or friends we make only one or two PS because we re more focused on parks and activities.

This year, since its my first trip solo and I haven't had a 'real' vacation in a while, I am more focused on pampering myself. I have made a ton of PS and am planning my park time and other activites around these.

Busted - when I read this I also laughed out loud. Yes - we always get consumed while planning. We discuss it every weekend when we get a chance. We have our "plan" saved on our computer.

My DH charts out our days there and we also decide where we are going to eat by which park we plan for that day.

When we go in early December, we always do the very merry at night so during the day we do DD. So we pick a place to eat at DD and at the very merry.

Then, and I think this makes us the MOST CONSUMED on the board........my DH takes our plan and shrinks it into a business card and makes copies for all of us in our party. That way if I am going to a different park than my DD, I know where I am supposed to wind up. He places the reservation numbers on there as well. Then we save the cards to see how close we actually come.

We never, ever really do ALL of the things we plan. But that is OK too. We have fun planning it, switching it and enchancing it all year long. ;)

First I planned our parks. Then I planned our ps. Then I altered our plan to accomodate PS that were not available on our planned days such as CRT breakfast and Polynesian Luaua.
The meals I have booked are important as they are new experiences, so I will work around them. However I schedule only 1 ps per day so its not too bad:D

We love planning ahead where we're going to dine and make lots of PSs. Dining at Disney is a very important aspect of the trip for us and planning is half the fun for me. Once we're there, we just follow our plan and relax.

We do lots of ps's , as we like to take a break for lunch in the parks and unwind, I plan out which parks we will go to , and then organize a sit down meal accordingly. we do dinner Ps's too. We are going in November 3-16 and if it is as busy as it seems like it is going to be, then we definitely want to know we can sit down and eat a meal at a time we prefer!! Not only that I think it's a lot of fun to look at menus and choose exciting meals!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is obsessed with where we are going to eat! (Suzywindy - I put everything into an Excel spreadsheet that I shrink down and put on notecards that I carry with us, you aren't alone!)

I do start planning by deciding which park(s) we will go to each day, but I also make a list of which restaurants we want to eat at. Sometimes I have to change our park plans a little! (Which means we end up spending a lot of late afternoons/evenings at Epcot...)
