Does what's in the news ever affect your trip plans?

I don't want to be a downer here in such a fun forum, I was just wondering if dire things in the news ever makes you feel less like vacation, or perhaps more like going on vacation?

I worked in Radiation Oncology for 35 year before retiring. I saw many people not live long enough to enjoy what I consider a full life or enjoy retirement. Due to this, I learned at an early age, to enjoy and appreciate each and every day.

As for the local/world news...... It's out of my control so to speak...

I go on vacation when it's right for me. I base some of my plans on weather and the grandkids school schedule. In the COLD of winter, I try to venture south.

Sometimes going on a vacation when things are bad might be a good way to "escape". I dont know...I never really thought about it. Now you got me thinking.....:confused3

That's a great perspective. There have always been crazy things going on in the world that are almost completely out of our control. Live life to the full, treat others the way you want to be treated - you'll be in good shape!

For sure there are things on the news that would have me changing my mind about travelling. Eg we were considering a Mediterranean cruise next year, but I've since found out there is a lot of naval action in that region due to the happenings in Syria, and so I'm glad I have changed our plans to travel to the US instead.

That said, like a PP, it's what I've seen in life that has me wanting to travel. My parents both died of cancer at 48 and 50, and I know they didn't travel like they wanted to. I want to see as much of the world as I can, early, in case I don't get the chance later, and share these experiences with my DD.

Mods, why move this thread? It has as much to do with current travel plans as most other subjects on the Disneyland board that don't get moved.

Nope, we don't let the world around us direct what we have decided to do. Life goes on and if you let the crazies of the world effect your world then they have accomplished their goal of directing your life the way they want to. Drive on.....forget about it and have fun while you can.
