Does WDW still not allow Segway's in the parks?

My neighbor (who I mentioned in my earlier post) recently won a legal decision against a local mall prohibiting him from using his Segway there.

I'm sure Disney has run across this before, so I'd be curious how they approach it.

I personally think allowing untrained people to ride them in public places is an accident waiting to happen (pun intended).

They are not certified/approved as medical equipment like wheelchairs and ECVs are. So, if an individual company or a city wants to limit their use, it's very hard for a disabled person who uses one for mobility to win.

We bought our Segway about 3 years ago.

Before it was even delivered to us we had to take a 4 hour class on the dynamics of it. Then it was delivered to us.

DH rides it all over the neighborhood and even goes shopping with it to the grocery store and drug stores and other stores around our neighborhood. He probably knows everyone that lives around us now 'cause people drive by him and then drive around the block or back up and he ends up talking at length with everyone.

Needless to say, we is a veteran in riding it by now.

Just back from WDW on Saturday. I happened to notice in the guide map for Downtown Disney that it specifiically mentioned that roller blades, skate boards and Segways were not permitted. I didn't take notice if it mentioned Segways in the guidemaps for the parks.

I went on a Segway Tour a few weeks ago and can I just say, "These things are a blast." If you purchase one on your own your need to take a more advanced training course, but they are VERY easy for the average Joe to operate. If I can do it, anyone can.

I do remember the CM mentioning that they are not allowed in the parks with the exception of Trained CM's and Segway Tours. In crowded conditions, such as WDW, I could see how they could cause some damage to other visitors although you really can stop on a dime if you had to.

We took the Segway Tour a few weeks ago and like "magiroux", were told by the CM instructor that guests were not allowed to bring their personal segways into the parks. I can't even imagine the havoc they could cause in the parks. The CM also said that there are 3 different models of segways - the largest model is a kind of utility type segway that could go up stairs and handle better in rough conditions. That could definitely cause issues in the park - just look out!!!

Here is a third voice to the story. We also took a Segway Tour in October (It was a Blast!) and we were told by the CM that personal Segways are not allowed in the Parks. The CM's must have special training and be certified to ride.
