Does UT not sell APs?

Where's the best place (least expensive) to buy an AP? If there even is another place? I didn't see them on UT.

UT doesn't sell them. I'm pretty sure there are no discounts (unless you are a FL resident) and you have to buy them through Disney.

If you are military, you can buy AP's through your ITT/MWR office at a great discount. We just got new ones for the four of us for $2308 (a savings of over $400). :goodvibes

You can buy them only through Disney (except military). (They used to sell them at the Disney Store in the Orlando Airport, not sure if that's the case anymore)

UT does not sell APs. You would have to purchase them from Disney. If you are a FL resident, military or a DVC owner, you can get a discount. Otherwise you will pay the full gate price.

One way to get an indirect discount would be to purchase a discounted ticket from a place like UT and then upgrade it to an AP after using it once. You need to make sure that the gate value of the ticket (not the price that you pay) is lower than the gate price of the AP. The anniversary date of your AP will be backdated to the date that your ticket was first used. And of course, like all ticket upgrades, you must do your upgrade to an AP within 14 days of when you first used the ticket.

Disney is the only place to buy an AP.

Not totally correct.

There is a branch of AAA (the Auto Club) called "AAA South" that serves
Florida, Georgia, Middle & West Tennessee, and Puerto Rico.

If you go to their offices, they have WDW AP's (Florida Resident, and NON-Florida Resident) at a discount.

AAA is actually operated regionally. Not all branches offer the same kind of tickets.

Yes.

That is a proven way to get a UT discounted WDW ticket that can be "turned into" a discounted WDW AP.

There is also a discount for DVC members. If you're going to buy one ahead you may have to do that through Member Services. I buy mine on-site so I'm not sure how you buy them ahead.

I did that last year - bought UT tickets with the mousesavers discount before the price increase and then bridged to AP after I entered the park. Between the UT savings and the tickets being purchased before the price increase I saved over $100 on each. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone!

I'm not military, but I do live in Middle TN, so might look into AAA. It appears that the UT discounted ticket might be the easiest though. So, when you're talking gate value....you mean "retail" value, right? Like what Disney would charge, but not what I paid at UT.

Would it be better to get a 2 day UT ticket and upgrade after the first use? Or a 10 day or just whatever UT has with the highest % off ticketwise?

Forgot to mention I am thinking about DVC. I just don't know anything at all about it and wondered whether I should buy into it or just rent points. Ok, I know you can rent points, but that's really all I know about it.

UT does not sell a 2-day MYW ticket. Get the ticket that saves you the most money but also has a gate value that does not exceed the price of an AP.

Huh. Our AAA doesn't offer AP's.

Head over to the DVC boards and read, read read. I actually read the Member Services forum for over a year before buying my first contract. DVC is a huge investment and an ongoing expense. Make sure that you understand what is involve in ownership before you commit to it.

Hmmm...that looks to be the Park Hopper 6 day, no expiration. It saves $32, and the next one up which saves $34 is actually a couple dollars above the AP price. Thanks for your help!

I will. I've put it off for a while because I was afraid I'd want it too much. :) I have even considered going to their sales pitch. I don't want to if it's high pressure though. Since you did sign a contract, do you like it? Did you ever rent points before that? I imagine there is a fair difference in price renting vs owning. I mean, if you know you go to Disney often it must work out cheaper to own or no one would do it, I guess.
