Does US have/Does Canada have...?

I have lived in Granum, down by Lethbridge, and Calgary. We now live up by Edmonton. Where do you live?

Does the US have Safeway, Sobeys/IGAs? What is the major grocery stores there? Hear lots about Albertsons on commercials. We don't have them up here.

We live in Indiana now but DH's mom still lives in Coaldale.

We have scattered IGA's and Safeways. Big chains here are Kroger, Albertson's

A lot of people shop at Target, Walmart Superstores as well.

I grew up outside of Detroit, and we got CBC. In fact, the first time I saw full frontal nudity on TV was on CBC in the late 70s . Isn't TRIO on DirecTV Canadian? We see a lot of Canadian shows on there.

One thing Canadians can indulge in anytime they want is dark chocolate KitKats. They are the best and I just loaded up on a recent trip to Toronto. Canadians get some of the best candy. Sigh. We also loaded up on the Dare brand maple creme cookies.

And the maple butter... to die for.

There is Costcos there too right?

Is there Boston Pizzas? (The chain)
What about Moxies and Montanas restaurants?

Yeap, Costcos - No on Boston Pizza, Moxies, & Montanas (as far as our area goes...not sure about cities closer to the border).

In the States, where it snows, how long typically is your snowy winter season?
Does it ever get cold cold, like down to -30 like here?

Here in Canada, it usually starts in late October and goes until Mid-March.

For this, you'll have as many different answers from the states as there are states. LOL It varies so much here. In my state (PA) it starts getting cooler in Sept, but anymore it's rare to have snow till December, and January is more the norm. It's really cold Jan through March, hitting maybe 20's to into the teens on a Fahrenheit scale. That's a little below freezing if you're only familiar with the Celsius scale. It's start warming in and around April (though we've had blizzards in April too). Summer starts in June and goes till end of August, early Sept.

When I was younger it seemed to snow a lot more than it does anymore. This past year, ours schools only lost 1 day due to snow. We had about 10 delays due to cold weather though.

In my area, we celebrate all 4 seasons.

I'll tell ya...DH REALLY misses Taco Time. SIL sent some seasoning packets down to him but it just isn't the same as a real soft meat burrito. ;)

There is a soft drink in Maine called Moxie. I've never seen a restaurant though.

We have family in Maine and when they visit, they always bring us some Moxie and some of those red hot dogs. The Moxie will make you gag! It has to be an acquired taste!!!

Moxies is a casual restaurant...similar to like an Applebee's

I think Americans are very patriotic. We love our country and want to show it. Just look at where I live, we are called Flag City, U.S.A. We have flags everywhere all the time! I love driving down Main Street and seeing all the flags. :)

I'm just curious why is your city called flag city? I drive through it on highway and I've wondered for awhile.

Old Dutch are regional but yes, they are here. We do not have Shreddies even though that is a popular cereal up there. Just called Shredded Wheat here. Yes, to all the rest.

What are some favorite family vacation spots?

Jean

"Cottage country" is the favorite family vacation spot. Cottages are a big thing up here and many people have a cottage a couple of hours out of the city that they use on weekends and in the summer. Other popular destinations: Toronto, Victoria, PEI, Algonquin Park, Ottawa, Banff, Peggy's Cove (Nova Scotia), Whistler, Montreal.

Another thing I've never seen in Canada is a Cracker Barrell.

Never heard of Old Dutch chips, Alphabet pretzels, shreddies, or pizza pops.
Yes to everything else.

Does Canada have Showcase Cinema or Hoyt's mega screen movie chains?

I'm thinking I saw Boston pizza on my last trip to n.falls, ON. I want to know is it just my luck or do pizza huts in Canada not have bread sticks?
