Does Typhoon Lagoon have a kids area?

Just wondering if Typhoon Lagoon has a kids area like Tikes Peak at BB? We did BB last time and DS2 really liked it, but we wanted to visit TL this trip and just wondered if there would be a place for him to play like that.

Yep, it's called Ketchakidee creek and my 2 and 4 year olds (when we went March 2005) loved it! It's great. Some sprinklers, water hoses that you can squirt, water slides and even a mini tube ride for little guys. They had a blast.

Does anyone know how strict they are about the 48 inch height maximum? Cause my DS(6) is 51 inches tall, but is really too young for some of the attractions (and a non-swimmer)

I think it depends on how crowded it is and the cm's working that day. My taller dd was a little over and not even measured, but we went during a very slow time and there were very few kids in the area. A friend was there recently and her ds5 was not allowed to play because he was to tall. She took him to Ski Patrol at BB and he had a blast there. There's more for them to do at BB then in TL.

I think one of the major factors in the size restriction is how disruptive the taller child might be and how polite the parents are about it. A friend brought her two children, one of which was too tall technically for Ketchakiddie, and asked a CM at the entrance to the area if it was okay if the taller one entered the water because they could not swim well and she was not comfortable sending her off alone at 7. The CM had no problem with it at all but just asked her to keep in mind to let the smaller children have pretty much the right of way. The two children were playing peacefully when my friend saw another tall child pushing little ones out of the way, splashing babies, etc., and the same CM kicked that family out of the area because they refused to keep the disruptive, tall child out of the water or make him behave.

We did both one summer when our DD was 2 years old. We found that BB is better for the younger crowd (todler/ preschooler.) TL is fun, but better for kids that are more comfortable with squirting water in their face and a bit more risks. Also it is pretty spread out so it can be a challenge as a parent to keep an eye on more then one kid at a time. I think a kid needs to be more on the less sensitive side to enjoy TL. (My DD tends to be more leery of water at that age, but loved BB.) Now she enjoyed TL too, but since then we have only gone back to BB because she likes it better. Keep a hand on your child when the big wave goes off, it can knock them right over.

Having said that TL does have a kiddy area, it is fun. They also have a few things for young kids apart from that area (near the main pool.)
