Does ticket owner need to be present during ticket upgrade?

I have 2 unused park hopper tickets (one a 7 day, one an 8 day) that I am going to give to my niece and nephew. I bought them from UT. I will have them each use the ticket once and then I want to upgrade them to 10 day non-expiry Water Park and More tickets. Do they have to be present when I pay for the upgrade (since their finger scans will be attached to the cards) or can I just take the tickets to GS and pay for the upgrade. They will be traveling with a baby and a toddler and it would be nice if I could do the upgrade at the IG at EPCOT while the kids are napping. TIA

They shouldn't need to be there at all, since you are not upgrading to annual passes or anything restricted to certain classes of guests (i.e. DVC, Florida Resident, etc.)

Great. It didn't seem like they should need to be there but I didn't know if they needed to put their finger scan on the new ticket. Thanks for your help.

FYI, the finger scan is not contained on the ticket - it is kept in the ATS computers. The new ticket will be associated to the scan in the computer. They didn't even have finger scanners at the ticket booths until around a year or two ago, and that was to deal with things like the Birthday/GAD free tickets...

Thanks for explaining that. The whole process makes a lot more sense now.
