Does this still work? (modifying reservations)

I have two reservations (a split stay) for a low availability time period. The other day, I saw the night between the two reservations (last night of the first reservation, first night of the second) became available. These are not the dates, but, for example, say I have 5/20-5/23 at resort one and 5/23-5/28 at resort two and the night of 5/23 is available at resort one. I don't have enough points to modify the first reservation to add the day and then drop that night from the second reservation.

In the past, you could get the modification to the point where you were holding the room for 20 minutes and then drop the night from the other reservation to release the points. Does this "trick" still work?

I didn't want to risk the reservations and didn't attempt it. Member Services told me that there was the possibility that I could lose the night. And, now, of course, the night is no longer available, but if it happens again, it would be nice to know if it works.

I think the two browsers method stopped working long ago. But I haven't tried in a while.

I just did two dummy reservations with another contract to try it out. I don't know why I didn't do it earlier. It didn't work.

And, I have found that when you hold the room for two long, it can disappear in cyberspace for about 15 to 20 minutes before coming back if you are trying to mess around with other things.
