Well, recently a member who is widely known as a scammer resumed posting trade threads. I believe the day he posted that, we got someone posting that they had been scammed. I think every day since then there has been a new scam or attempted scam thread, except for maybe once day. Now, it's only been three or four days, but it still sounds fishy (fish.i for the person who gets the joke ;)). Please, someone tell me if I have just become paranoid or something.

EDIT: 55 views and no posts. I guess I must be insane. :rotfl:

Well, how about it I post this route....

I have played VMK for 1.5 years. I have traded and traded and traded again until my friends tell me to stop trading and get on the pirate boat.

I have done trades in which:
- I have given codes
- I have received codes
- Multiple windows are necessary
- Credits through a quest kiosk are included
- Shopping sprees are included
- CLs helped
- Common friends without CL_ in their title have helped
- Trades that include a combination of several of the above.

I have NEVER, not once, been successfully scammed or cheated out of anything, not even 1 ice cube.

You do not need to be concerned about trading safe if you follow safe trading practices. It boggles my mind when I read some of the "I have been scammed" stories posted here. If you really read them through, you will often see the point where something in the trade was CLEARLY a warning sign that something was not right.

I will not comment on any specific traders on these boards. I will simply say that I personally have had sketchy experiences with a few people here and the solution is very easy: No matter how badly I want what they have, I just don't trade with them. Ever. (And for the record, I am NOT referring to an individual that has received many publics attacks recently.)

You truly do not need to be concerned about getting cheated if you never put yourself in a situation where someone can cheat you. It really is easy.

It's a game - have fun with it. Trust yourself. If something doesn't sit right with you, don't do it. As basic as that seems, t's worked for me this far.

Hope this helps a little,

I dont personally think scams have been on the rise to be honest, I just think we are all more aware since very public events have happened here in the past month or more.

I have not yet been scammed. My philosophy is the day I say "never" is the day I let my guard down, and the day I have been scammed.

I got scammed once, when I was about 12 VMK days old. The day they took the Rockets out of the Star Trader shop someone came into my room and wanted to trade his cactus for my black rocket. I figure "Sure, I can just go buy another!" but they were gone. But I still have that Sea Green Cactus Chair. I get the last laugh, even if it is a year or more later.

All because you know who ( not that dude from Harry Potter) is back. I don't think he/her will try to scam someone right after everyone is on high alert for him/her making a trade tread, I guess he/her is innocent untill proven guilty.

:thumbsup2 Right on!! I've said something like this as well before. I think most that have been scammed could have avoided it. I don't do much trading but the little I have done. Well I have not been scammed. Someone recently try to do the lame I'll trade you your gold gown for the blue gown bit on me but 1. I already had it from way back and 2. I knew it was for sale still. Straight out told her as well and that it wouldn't fly with me. I honesly believe that if more would watch for those warning signs and not just jump on whatever because they want it badly they wouldn't be scammed. As well as check each window of the trade before accepting each time.

I completely agree that scams can be avoided if trades are done with caution and with the brain in mind. But I also think that the more players are in the game (especially the younger ones), the more trusting they get towards friends or even strangers which probably brings their guard down quite a bit. There could be a million warning signs all over the vmk homepage or on forums and it may even be bluntly obvious to some people that the scammer is trying to, well, scam. However, when a kid is being shown an object that they want so bad, the idea of a scam could be put to the back of their mind.

So while I agree that scamming is easily avoided when trades are done with caution, sometimes it's not that easy for those who are overly trusting or still young enough to be easily tempted with "candy".

Anyway, I don't think scamming is any more "in force" now as it was a while back. I just think people are whinning about it more than they did a while back lol. :upsidedow

i have been on since December 15,2005. Back then I was 10 years old and very foolish. I did taken, baby, etc. Now I am almost 13 I think I know what I'm doing on vmk now. I have never been scammed before in my life/but i have had attempts to scam me. such as the famous 'try on' from a baby who said she needed things. I never give my stuff for free. you have to earn it. except on christmas bc on christmas my room becomes a Christmas Party Room and everyone gets presents.(btw I started playing vmk 10 days before Christmas and I got called from my auntie to go pick out her Christmas Tree, and forgot the name of vmk. I never played until January 2006. But then I forgot about it again and never played until September 30,2006. Now I'll never leave VMK again!

Exactly A.

Speaking as one of those who HAS been scammed because I was being NICE not trading, it does happen.

Even to players, like me, who know the scams and know better.

NEVER say NEVER. :rolleyes1
