Only 60 days until our trip to Paris! We were able to get the ADRs we wanted today - yay!

I wanted to have someone confirm that the following sounds correct in regards to transportation from CDG to DLP/Cheyanne and then when we return to Paris after a weekend at DLP:

- leaving CDG we should be able to take either RER or the "magical shuttle" from the airport complex to either the DLP station or directly to the hotel respectively AND WE COULD BUY TICKETS FOR EITHER OF THOSE DAY OFF IN THE AIRPORT?

- returning we plan to purchase a Navigo card at the DLP end RER station and we should be able to get tickets that will last through that week (this will be a monday to friday time frame) and can get us on the RER/Metro/Versaille.

I just mainly want to confirm that I think I can buy magical shuttle one way in the airport the day of. i'm thinking that will be the easier choice, given we will have flown all night and have some amount of luggage and the shuttle should take us right to the hotel. I know tickets can be purchased online, but I don't seem to be able to figure out how to buy just a one way ticket, as we are staying in Paris 4 days after the DLP part and I think the RER/Metro can get us pretty close to the hotel and we won't be jet lagged (as bad) and as overwhelmed as we probably will be after flying all night!!

TIA!!

Yes you can buy a one way Magic Shuttle ticket at the airport. The Magic Shuttle departure point is in a corridor linking Terminal 2E and 2F. There is a big branded ticket desk which you cant miss.

On the website http://magicalshuttle.co.uk/ to buy a one way ticket online , just uncheck Return Trip under Outward Journey. :)

Personally I'd always advocate getting a taxi to meet you from CDG and take you all the way to the hotel. You can book online beforehand and give them your flight details.

I agree. CDG airport is massive and depending which terminal you land at you may have to get a shuttle bus to where the Magic Shuttle departs. You may be waiting about til one departs and there may be drops off at a few hotels first.
With a pre booked private or shared shuttle they will meet you at your arrivals gate, help with your luggage and take you direct to your hotel. Most people who book a shared shuttle don't end up sharing.

If you do get the RER from the airport you will have to change trains in central Paris - same station but different line and this will take well over an hour.
The fast train from CDG is the TGV - you can buy tickets on the day for this but they tend to be more expensive

I appreciate the feed back. I'm a little intimidated by the taxi thing after reading about other people's experiences? Sounds like it is worth it to look into the cost then. We are looking for ease but I don't want to spend a zillion euro!

OK. doing research here - seems like the one way "magic shuttle" is still going to be about 60E, and perusing links and trip advisor, i'm seeing either private car/shared shuttle being about 60-90/one way for the same 3 people. the ease (especially of a private hire waiting with our name on a board!) speaks to my inner tired traveling spirit animal! not all the links in the FAQ on transfers are still good, but i can see that this might be a good thing, but of course, the cost of everything we are doing is slowly creeping up!

how much and/or do people tip on a car ride with minimal luggage and if so how much?

I'm stressing over the money exchange thing. our plan is to use our ATM cards/credit card back up for purchases not already paid for.... i have a weird fear of exchanging money... hard to explain, but we weren't going to actively exchange tons of cash, maybe just a little when we got there or preferably from the ATM.... I just want to prepay all the extras so i don't have to deal with that issue there!!

anyways thanks for your thoughts!

We didn't really tip at all - just rounded up to the nearest 10 which was only a couple of Euros. But then we're tight I guess! I don't think the French are really into tipping in the same way as Americans are (are you American?). And I have read that restaurants by law have to include the service charge so you aren't expected to tip in France in restaurants either.

And it's great walking through to find someone holding a card up with your name! You feel so important! In fact this time, I put the taxi in the name of my son's girlfriend who isn't a seasoned traveller and she was thrilled!

We always take the TGV from CDG to DLP (acronym overload) for speed and convenience. We are usually there for a week, four nights at Cheyenne and a few off-site). We use the daily Mobilis ticket (about €15 (all zones, cheaper in Paris itself) for all trains & busses etc and other discounts) for going into & around Paris. The price difference between TGV/Taxi/Shuttle/RER was only minimal anyway.

Where and when do you purchase the Mobilis ticket?

Available on touch-screen menu in all ticket machines in RER & metro stations. Its usually on the menu screen where you select your ticket type.

Navigo - local commuters, faff to set up and charge money to.
Paris Visite - mainly for tourists in central Paris only, expensive for DLP travel.
Carnet - 10x single use tickets. Ok unless you catch more than a couple of metro/RER/Bus.
Mobilis - valid full day on metro, RER & bus. All zones for Paris-DLP, ~ €16

Having used all four, the mobilis is cheaper & easier. Unlimited use all day, handy for impulse trips.

Hi :), i have just returned home from disney yesterday. Before this trip i really would have recommended the magical shuttle to everyone,i have used it the last 2 years in a row but this year i was shocked it was such a mess! When our flight landed we made it to the area where the shuttles leave and there were so many people there, two men were 'organising' everyone and didnt seem to have a clue, they sent some of us to one side of the bus stop depending on our hotels and then a bus arrives the other side and they change their mind and we were now all at the back of a queue, then families/children getting on the bus were told no not going to that hotel and sent back and forward to the other side of the bus stops where there was a second shuttle. I realise it may have just been the timing(early morning) but it was stressful and i really doubt i will get it next time. just my experience this time.

Thank you so much for this information....filing it in my DLP folder for my May 2017 trip :sunny:

can anyone recommend a shared shuttle/private shuttle or taxi that they used recently to go CDG to DLP? I'm now leaning towards that, but not all the links on the sticky are still good and some of the websites look pretty old? when i look on trip advisor, none of the names recommended here seem to be recommended by them. should i just taxi it? taxis in foreign countries intimidate me! ha! :)

We always use Ezy Shuttle and they have always been on time, can't recommend them enough. I think they charge 70E each way. It's a private taxi so only your party.

As a local, from CDG to DLP, I would only trust the TGV trains. Traffic is no unpredictable on roads, and high-speed trains are so reliable.
Remember tickets cannot be bought online, only at the train station or inside the train (tell the SNCF staff you couldn't buy the journey online to avoid on-board issuing fees).
