Does this sound like H1N1

I started with symptoms yesterday...

Cough, runny nose, fever, (only 101.5) mild body aches...

I don't know because I was expecting something worse. I work in a school and 15% of the staff and students have developed "flu like symptoms'" No one knows for sure because doctors aren't testing all people they are just saying they most likely have it. Additionally, both my DDs have flu like symptoms but have gotten the H1N1 vaccine. So I'm thinking I have the same cold they have.

People from work who have had it say it was pretty bad, but I don't feel severely ill, I just feel really crummy.

I'm confused!

H1N1 can be mild or severe. The CDC website says that the seasonal flu is not widespread right now, so most current flu cases are indeed H1N1. I wish I could find more than 1 reference for that fact.
Anyway, fever and body aches are not usually symptoms of cold in adults.

Don't know what area you are in but here in NY the Dr's and hospital both told me that the seaonal flu is not even here yet, doesn't make an appearance until Dec so anyone with a "flu" now has H1N1--- hough for some reason people are freaked out to admit it...my friend said 'I don't have that, I just have a flu"............ummmm H1N1 IS just a flu!!!!
I had it and I had 3 bad days, my daughter had it and she was bouncing around in a day. The problem with this is that people are sending their kids back to school because they have no fever and the flu is contagious for 7 days after the onset of symptoms so they go back to school and keep infecting others. Right now we have 2 Dr's fighting with the school district to change their 24 hour fever free policy because that is false information when dealing with H1N1. My daughter certainly could have went back a few days after getting it but I kept her out for the whole week because it was the right thing to do. My friends daughter has it now and her Dr also sent a note to the school saying she has to be out for the full week because she is contagious.

Could just be a "flu like" virus. Lots of other bad viruses out there that are not flu at all. My kids had something years ago that was exactly like the flu, but was NOT. Just a bad virus. Hope you all feel better!

Could be....... might just be another virus too........ testing is the only way to be sure!

Both my girls have flu symptoms, one was sent home Monday from school, the other Wednesday, with a low grade fever. Within 24 hours they had a fever of 103 & higher. They are complaining of a sore mouth. (possibly from coughing so much) They are too hot then too cold, just purely uncomfortable. Their noses are running away. (Forget the tissue box get a bucket!) The worst part of it is the wheeze/coughing so hard they can't breathe.
The doctor said to drink 3 times what you normally would, give motrin or tylenol for fever, & get plenty of rest. Both are on tamiflu. They aren't testing for H1N1, but are treating them as if that is what they have.
Both girls have the OK to return to school on Monday as long as there has been no fever in 24 hours.
My children didn't have a flu shot, but they were around my brother who had both a flu shot & an H1N1 nasal spray that was given for free at work.
They say it can't spread from the nasal spray, but everyone that was around him the day he got the spray now has flu symptoms. Coincidence?

I would err on the side of caution and call your Dr. ASAP. If it is the flu, since it started today, you may be able to take Tamiflu which will really help shorten the duration and intensity. You have to start taking it within the first few days so you don't want to wait.

That's interesting! I've only heard the 24 hour after fever is gone rule!

Our family had the swine flu and it was relatively mild. We kept the kids home about a week because we were worried about them catching a secondary infection while their immune systems were taking care of the flu.

I was told by my Dr. that you are still indeed contagious for 7 - 10 days after the onset of the flu. He advised me to keep DD out of school for one week minimum. He said with everyone being told 24 hours without a fever its ok to return to school or work, this is what is spreading the flu!

Just got back from our peds.... my 12 year old has H1N1. They gave us Tamiflu.

I just did a quick google to see that there are "flu-like" but not flu viruses making the rounds. Here is one I found. Doubt yours is this, just showing that there is other junk out there that is not the flu:

Yours could be H1N1, but it could just be a run of the mill virus. It seems like everything is being labeled H1N1 even if it is just a random virus. That is why people can't decide whether to vaccinate or not, they don't know if they had H1N1 or a virus.

If your girls had the vaccine over 2 weeks ago, it would not be likely they would both get H1N1 now, but who knows!

My DD is 16. She also has alot of medical conditions and is in a wheelchair. On Mon. she had a fever of 39.6, I think thats about 103. Also a cough, very tired and complained of a sore back. When I got home from work we took her to a flu center. The nurse checked her and gave her more tylenol. Her BP was 124/90, O2 was 98%,temp. 39.6, and respir. 103. I noticed the check sheet said if you have 3 out of 5 above to go to Emerg. ASAP. Anyway, my DD went to the clinic DR. he immediately started her on Tamiflu. He even thanked me for bringing her in! I too thanked him for seeing her! She has been on it since Mon., today Thurs. she looks much better!!!!! No fever since yesterday! She still has a very wet sounding cough! I have not sent her to school all week. I plan on sending her on Mon. IF she is ready, meaning NO fever, bright eyed and little to no cough! She has not had her H1N1 shot thats a whole other story!!!!! She has had her seasonal flu shot. Do I think she has/had H1N1, yep I do.

As, for your symtoms I would be careful and not hessitate to see a Dr.. Health is nothing to fool around with or wonder about! Hope you feel better soon!!
