My dh showed me this video tonight of what bloggers are calling the "Presidential Groping".

http://www.crooksandliars.com/posts/2006/07/18/presidential-groping/

(Click on video to see the whole video)

Does rubbing the shoulders of a female leader of a country at the G8 seem like a "normal" thing to do? Would he have done this to another guy? Probably not. That seems to me it would be something a chauvenistic boss would do to his secretary....not the leader of of a very powerful nation.

I just don't get it....how embarrassing! Sometimes, I think he has NO clue the way the rest of the world functions!!

:confused3

It is her fault for having such lovely shoulders.

Embarrassing yes!! Funny though too!!!
Can't wait to see what John Stewart has to say about it.

right on about everything else Beca!

Yeah, my DS pointed out he walked past two other "world leaders" to get to her too. :confused3

Okay...THAT just gave me the heebies!!! ;)

HK...thanks!!

I just cannot IMAGINE if I were sitting in an executive meeting (just a business one, not even a WORLD LEADER one) where I was the only woman, and one of the other "execs" came over to rub my shoulders...I would be SOOOO mad!!!

Hope you tivo'd last night because he had it on last night. They had slowed down the tape so you could see the German chancellor's whole reaction. She obviously did not appreciate the hands on approach of our mysogenistic president. I wish she had smacked him and walked out. He deserved it! What a creeep!

:rotfl: That looked more like an attack. That could possibly be construed as an act of war if he does that to too many more people.

I can't stop laughing.

That was bad.

And I thought I couldn't be more grossed out when he was eating with his mouth open while talking with Tony Blair (this was the same conversation with the swear word, right?)

This guy gets more embarassing every day.

do we have video or something of eating with mouth open. i missed that one.

Had a boss that used to do this. Drove me nuts because it messed up my hair. But I knew he didn't mean anything by it and I doubt that President Bush did, either.

But who knows? I didn't think President Clinton had a problem, either. So, I'm not one to judge.

how embarrassing, doesn't he have any "handlers" to tell him how to act!?!? :confused3 Unbelievable!!!

I agree with you. And, here's another video I also posted on the other thread about this. She is clearly smiling at the end (she really does like him). If you watch the whole video you'll see some stuff with them earlier in the day. You can't say she is turned off by him touching her if you watch the whole video.

They're friendly. He's an informal person, and she seems to relish it. I saw some pics the other day where she was staring at him all googly-eyed. I couldn't find it today, but came across the video I'm posting. To those that are ready to slam Bush at every turn, you do realize that men and women DO interact differently together than just men do, uh. . . don't you?

Watch the whole video and watch the part AFTER he squeezes her shoulders. It's obvious she finds him charming.

Or....another interpretation is that she greeted him earlier in the day when she still had it in her to be cordial. But, later in the day while the meeting was going strong, she had just had it with his "I'm your buddy" stuff. Plus, remember the "cheek kiss" is a VERY common way of greeting in Europe...it has nothing to to whether you like someone or not.

When he kept going on about the pig in the earlier press conference, she looked at him like, "Is there something seriously wrong with you?"

And yes, women and men DO relate differently, but in boardroom or stateroom situations...everyone should always be on their best behavior. This is a meeting of GLOBAL LEADERS....not a retreat at Camp Woodchuck!! His "touchy feely-ness" makes it seem like cocktail hour. Plus, I would be SOO offended if any "peer" ever tried to rub my shoulders in an important meeting. From my point of view, she looked offended, too.

Add to that the "Yo, Blair" statements and cussing with his mouth full...he's just crass.

Didn't anyone notice that he was walking past her and did that one his way past? If you see the rest of the video he continued on....

I didn't read the rest of this thread so I don't know if anyone else said/noticed this.
