I just booked a 5 night stay at POR, 12/19-12/24.
2 Adults / 1 Child Age 10

Royal Room (it's all they had)
Free dining
2 day MYW tix

DH and I have 4 day non expiring tix so we don't need extra days. I will either upgrade DD's ticket to 4 days or allow her to use either mine or DH's ticket (that we will not use ourselves...I've had mixed feedback on whether that can be done...can anyone confirm?)

I got this pkg for a little over $2K. I thought it was a pretty good deal for that time of year.

I was able to get good ADR's.

BUT, we have only been to WDW in early December or mid-January when the crowds are L-O-W!

Are we going to be totally frustrated and unable to do much if we decide to go forward with this plan?

We've never stayed onsite either and we do have the option of staying offsite. Would we feel more relaxed staying offsite at this time of year if go on these dates? (We have a car so there's no issue waiting for transportation, etc.)

Looking for some very honest feedback. Thank you!

You should be fine. I always travel to WDW during high peak times(Xmas, Easter, summer) and stay on property. I always have a great time. You just have to be aware that there will be more people and the wait times for rides may be longer. Bring your patience! Definitely make a list of your must dos and make sure you do those first. I always enjoy hotel hopping and looking at the decorations during the holidays. I make sure I ride my must rides and then just enjoy the atmosphere. Take advantage of the EMH if you stay on property. They are great!

you want to be on site during peak I think. You get dropped off right at the gate pretty much and the ease of transportation will make onsite worth it. Plus you can take advantage of EMH which you can't offsite. We were there that time last year and honestly if you use touringplans or easywdw to plan your trip you will be fine. We had minimal waits and did pretty much everything on our list of must dos.

I would upgrade your dd's ticket to four days and hold on to your unused tickets for a later trip. I think you get a better value that way. If you don't want to hold them your dd can use them as long as they are UNUSED. I'd have the resort pull them off your KTTW card so they don't accidentally get used at the gate

Thanks! I want the trip to be as wonderful as others we've done! I guess if we have to wait in lines at least it won't be hot ...that's the pits (imo anyway )

yes I'd take cooler temps over heat any day. I will say last year there were some 80-90 degree days in December with cooler nights. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt to the park during the day and even managed some pool time then jeans and a hoodie in the evening. Take a range of clothing since the weather is unpredictable.
